Re: Hello From Whenuapai!

Nice intro - i hope you get what you want out of the website! As Sitdown says, I believe Whenuapai fishes well over summer. I went for a tiki tour up to the Riverhead tavern when i first got my kayak. Very nice paddle and after chatting to some surfcasters near the end of Riverland Road who told me ...

Re: No fishing

I'm thinking of just heading to Orewa or Wenderholm for a bit of a surfcast into the river channels. That will satisfy two things, a nice drive and a wander around in the fresh air with rod in hand! Does anyone know if there are any good spots in the upper Waitemata harbour and if any snapper would ...

Re: Few trips

Thanks for the report, both areas that i need to get to! Did a bit of rock fishing around Huia and Cornwallis years ago, but as an amatuer never really had much luck. Would love to get a bit further out into the channel. And Pt Chev just sounds awesome, must be somewhere that the snapper love to hun...

Re: Tamaki Yacht Club – 15th December

Good work Uncle Mole. I went out from Narrow Neck, tried out my new anchor which was nice to stop the drifting but didn't help catch any fish! Did catch my first gurnard, wasn't sure on the size limit so popped it back. Two undersized snapper as well after i upped anchor. I was only about a km out, ...

These posts are great! They have reminded me that i need to practise "falling out" and getting back in...

And the leashes sound nice, but my leashes are just some rope that I cut to suit - a real bargain!!

Good work for remembering the marathon!

I'm sure we can make up for it over the coming Labour weekend... the fish will all just be 100-200 grams heavier...

Nice one Uncle Mole - don't forget that the Auckland Marathon is on this Sunday the 20th, so access to Okahu Bay might be a bit difficult.

Good luck! You live in the right neighbourhood for the fish, although it's never too far in Auckland!

Re: Narrowneck Sat 23rd March

Thanks for the posts guys, obviously i still have a bit to learn about catching these fish!! The fog was an interesting one, none on the drive there, just sort of drifted in after 6am... Luke, can you give me a run down on the method to get your fish looking so good, and if you use ice? They look gu...

Narrowneck Sat 23rd March

Started off at 6 a.m. it was a beautiful day very little wind and some fog coming off the land onto the water. Paddled out towards the number 7 bouy. Quite a few boats about. Started the drift towards the city not much going on. Great full moon which was really bright didn't even need a torch. Finis...

Re: Tamaki Yacht Club, Auckland

Nice report Uncle Mole. Thanks for the tips on the websites - i've been using the fishing.net.nz website bite times for my "what does the bottom look like" marine maps but it's a bit tricky to use. It does have the tides, sunrise and moon as well as fishing quality. https://www.fishing.net.nz/fishin...

Okahu Bay - 10.02

Got to the ramp at 5, sad to say the toilets there don't open till later, but the ones at the beach are open all night... also not sure about parking charges - is my kayak a boat?? Headed off about 6am, was very quiet with not many boats around. Got a couple of little 25cm early on which went back, ...

Re: 26/1 Orere

Good work! There is hope for us beginners!! Were you using jigheads for the soft baits - what weight? And what types of soft bait? I've tried a green sparkly soft bait on 1/3 oz heads. Get bites but no takers... i think i need a heavier jig head and brighter colours... I caught my first snapper on a...
