Re: winter kayak fishing

If you follow a layering system you'll be right mate.: Base layer, (e.g merino top) insulation layer (e.g polar fleece), and a shell layer (e.g waterproof/windproof jacket). This gives you flexibility if you get too hot you can remove a layer etc. https://www.odlo.com/on/demandware.static/-/Library-...

If you want a top end option for kayak fishing - this is the way to go: https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/sharkskin-climate-control-mens-long-sleeve-rash-top My old man got me one for my birthday, seemed a bit over the top but holy hell this thing is amazing, keeps you toasty warm, but has good breath-...

Re: Skutes

Another fish to the species list on this same Skute. (nearly two) - I'm loving this lure, can't wait to make some more. Awesome fun catching snapper on it in the kelp, hooked up on a John Dori as well but the hook pulled near the surface! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/dcpDc_StJVvBVVG0YoXSCoaifL1...

Re: Skutes

Well I took the Skute out for a crack on Saturday morning from Narrowneck beach. The plan was to flick the skute around on my softbait rod and have an orange slider hanging below. The fishing was pretty quiet for me that day (not sure if it's because the skute wasn't working or the fish weren't arou...

Re: Skutes

Beautiful! Looks pretty deadly. A lot bulkier than mine, perhaps I need to flesh it out a bit next time.

Also, is that colour scheme French, American or Dutch?

Skutes

A mate gave me some old jig heads so I tried my hand at tying some Skutes, anyone else given it a go much? I tried tying it in a "clouser" style more akin to something found in salt water fly fishing. These are used to target Kahawai, Snapper, Gurnard and Trevally, depending how you fish them. Altho...

Mangawhai Bar 23/03

Went out for a quick sunrise sesh Saturday morning for a couple hours. Launched at the estuary and got out the bar ok and started fishing, drifting about 100m out from Sentinel Rock. Dropped down the slider and had just cast my softbait when the slider went off and I pulled up a nice 9lb snap.. grea...

Te Kouma, Coromandel 26/08

First fishing since March! Went out Sunday morning from Te Kouma: https://goo.gl/maps/F83Z5URYS712 Beautiful calm conditions, got a nice Kahawai while trawling a softbait on the way to the first mussel farm. Mussel farms were pretty quiet, caught a few tiny snapper so moved on to a 28m hole where th...

Coromandel - best place to launch near hot water beach?

Hi All, As the title says really, any suggestions on launch spots? I know that hot water beach gets some pretty dumpy surf so not too keen to launch there. I'm heading over Coromandel for the long weekend. Gonna be staying at hot water beach with some mates and thought I'd bring the yak. Any suggest...

Re: ANZAC Day Mission?

Well I've had a change of plans, my spearfishing mate is coming with me and I don't think Sullivans is very well suited for spearing unfortunately. So we'll be heading up to Matheson Bay in Leigh instead. Gonna be an early start. |-) |-) Sorry fellas, at least there'll be more fish for the rest of y...
