Re: Skutes

Pretty cool man. I just did a trip up north with some mates, one of whom caught his PB on the Saturday morning, then topped that on the Sunday morning both on Skutes he'd tied himself. He was kind enough to tie one for me a few months back but I lost it after 3 casts haha. Looking forward to seeing ...

Re: winter kayak fishing

Hey mate. Winter fishing is awesome. It's not too hot and there's usually less boat traffic. My biggest reservation with a wetsuit is the ability to piss. Unless you're cool with pissing your pants, which admittedly would be nice and warm in this situation, a wetsuit is a bit of a hassle. Personally...

https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/owner-dh-41-double-hooks 2/0 was the smallest, I'd like a little smaller to be honest but the seem to work well.

Caught the JD on a coconut ice zman - they seem to like the pink.
Cheers!

Re: Deep diving lures

4 Decent snaps and a JD. I couldn't see more than 3m in front of me from 6am till 10am the fog was that bad. So I kept close in to the cliffs and just trolled around. If you didn't have a fish finder with GPS charts, you'd be lost in seconds. I literally had to stare at the screen and keep the litt...

Re: Whangamata 21/04

Bloody nice snapper that, well done. I'm actually heading to Whangamata next weekend and will be taking the yak with me for a dawn mish hopefully. Can you recommend best spot to launch from? Cheers! Was a good fight. I'd say along the back beach somewhere in the middle. It's most sheltered from the...

Whangamata 21/04

Another family trip to Whangamata, another dawnie beach launch. Paddled out in almost darkness and headed to my usual area. A mate had given me some skutes he’d tied so I had one of those on a the “heavy” setup (10lb) and a paddle tail on the light. Mostly fishing around reef in about 5-8m so even t...

Re: Tamaki Yacht Club 19th April

Dude, that’s a decent paddle. Well done on the fish. I’ve paddled from St Heliers to Rangi Channel and back before, it’s a commitment. A guy called Destin on here does it too. Mate, you gotta take snacks and water! Or cut up some sashimi! Cool that you got to give the new gear a good test, though an...

Ha! Nicely done! That’s a big boye too!

Cool that you were trolling an inchiku. Might as well give kaburas and whatever else a go. A banana I reckon. It can’t fail :D

Re: Whangaparaoa 14/04

Man, it really had the reel going eh :D It was one of those situations where fishing from a kayak really comes into its own, and you can use the kayak to play the fish. There's no doubt if I was at anchor I would've been busted off trying to drag it to me, rather than have it tow me and being able t...

Re: Whangaparaoa 14/04

One of those Dr. Evil lures could be worth a nudge at NN. There’s a bit of depth there once you get out a bit.

Cool man, have a good one! I’m sure you’ll do well as usual!

Re: Whangaparaoa 14/04

Good stuff. Never had any luck with towing lures, maybe I paddle too slow :0 Thanks, man. If there's kahawai around, they'll always have a swipe. Picked up a fair few that way going from A to B over the years. Either bibbed or just the softbait you are using. I've had pretty inconsistent results on...

Whangaparaoa 14/04

Been hanging out to get out there all week with mint weather. This time the window was this morning with an early gap in the wind. Launched from Tindalls with the intention to stay out of the forecasted southerly and fish the area between there and Army bay. There’s anchovies galore being pushed int...

Okuma X Factor Top Section

Hey all.

Any chance someone has the top section of an Okuma X Factor 6-10kg softbait rod they're willing to part with?

Cheers.

Re: Battery box recommendation

Sistema plastic box with a cable gland drilled into the side. I cut a hole the shape of the box into a piece of rubber foam and glued it to the inside of the hull under the seat as a mount so it doesn't move around in there. You could also add foam to the inside of the sistema box to stop the batter...
