Re: NN - 18/05. Only fools and Horses.

Nice haul master!

I bought one of those K-labs rods - exact same version by the looks of it, works well.

Weather looks balls all week, with winter coming it might be time to switch to hunting Gurnard in a different spot :y:

Re: NN - 18/05. Only fools and Horses.

Orange sliders did most of the work on the 1st trip.

But they are pretty boring to fish with - just sticking em in the rod holder and waiting does as good as slow jigging them up and down.

So I skipped them for the 2nd go, and it was much more fun with fleas and softies.

Re: NN - 18/05. Only fools and Horses.

Great weather today, so I went out and had another crack at Takapuna drifting around #1 - #5.

Was awesome stuff.

Brought a new Tranx 400 which worked smooth as silk with the OA Fleas.

NN - 18/05. Only fools and Horses.

With no one wanting to take a day off work, I decided to do something a bit different and headed well out past the lighthouse for a drift around Rangitoto. It was a non stop KY boil up with birds everywhere. Took 2, could have fulled the yak. Grabbed 7 snappers (was half way through filleting before...

Re: NN redemption tour - 10/05

Didn't think anyone would be available mid-week.

The fog was brutal early on - couldn't see the front of my kayak till after 7, so I fished around the cliffs for a while.

Pretty unnerving in the dark and fog when you hear fog horns going off and big diesel engines rumbling in the distance

NN redemption tour - 10/05

After Saturday's modest effort, and with the weekend weather looking piss poor, I decided to ask the boss for the day off to go fishing. It was a much better effort with 6 snapper caught (mostly on sliders) and a nice JD for dinner. So much more pleasant fishing a weekday with very little boat traff...

Re: Lower back pain

I wear a cheap back brace whenever I go out - I find that helps a lot. (Any $2 store or TradeMe). Get a decent seat for sure. The standard ones are pretty basic. And make sure you tighten the straps up so your not slouching back and putting pressure on your back when you reach forward to paddle. I d...

Re: Yes another NN tale

Well done lads. I went out on Saturday. Was also slow going till 7:30ish, then I caught a bunch at 30-32cm which I threw back thinking the bigger ones were still to come. Ending up only taking a couple at 45ish. Saw one guy with several Gurnard which he caught out by the yellow buoy - never seen any...

Re: A little story about Shimano - and why I will never buy them again.

UPDATE. Well well... I just got a call from Shimano. They said there had been a miscommunication and my reel had been logged as a standard repair and not a warranty claim. They apologized (which was the main thing I was looking for), are fixing it for free, and sending me out a free jumper. :y:

Re: A little story about Shimano - and why I will never buy them again.

It is perfectly reasonable to self maintain the roller bearing, as a matter of fact its a must. Now Im not saying Shimano is right to presume anything like you leaving the screw loosened, but its not a big step to assume this may be the case. The only debate-able thing here is was the screw loose f...

A little story about Shimano - with a happy ending.

Seven months ago I bought a Shimano Stradic 4000 C14+ reel for $350. I had heard great things about them, and decided it was worth the money to get a good quality reel. Five weeks ago, I was out fishing when the roller in the bail arm fell out into the water - plop! So I returned it to where I broug...

Re: Rangi channel or Army Bay?

Check the wind/tide 1st. You want to paddle left to around markers #5-7 or right to markers #11-13, and let the tide/wind drift you back along the edge of the channel. That's the rough idea anyways. P.S. You can go over to the red markers also, I don't seem to do any better/worse there so I don't no...

This forum - giving likes.

Sometimes I read a post and want to just give a like or a thumbs up - I can't always be bothered writing an actual reply.

Is it possible to adjust this forum so you can like/dislike a post?

Cheers.

Re: Narrow Neck Post Storm - Sweet as Bro!

Nice haul! I also went out from Narrow Neck and got a piece of that action. Been out from there a few times with pretty good success, it's amazing how productive that channel is considering the pressure it gets. Launched around 630 and ended up paddling further over to Rangitoto to throw a bruised ...

Narrow Neck Post Storm - Sweet as Bro!

Well surprise surprise, no one wanted to go fishing after the crap weather. Mitch gave some excess about having to fix all the power outages in West Auckland - but I think he just wanted to sit in the dark and meditate with the Mayor. So I paddled out at 5:30am by myself in perfect conditions. (apar...
