Re: winter kayak fishing

Auckland doesn't get that cold.

Just went out today and there was almost no one out there

Re: Feelfree lure 10

I stick it in rudder 1st right up to the windscreen now so it doesn't hang out as far.

You are actually allowed 4m of overhang past the rear axle by law - which is pretty much the whole kayak.

Anyway, I find this system much easier that racks - zero lifting, just slide her in and out.

Re: Paddle pants

I had the gul code zero salopettes from NZ sailing and although fairly comfortable and warm with the high front and back, the waterproofing was average. I think the seated knees up position in the kayak seat stretches the fabric and compromises the waterproofing. Got worse and worse and I finally g...

Re: Paddle pants

I recommend over-all type pants that keep your back warm and dry. I use these: https://www.gul.com/technical/sail/protection/cordurar/code-zero-mens-race-salopettes Actually someone can have my old pants for free if they want. Scott waterproof snowboarding pants in medium. (A few frays and marks but...

Re: Deep diving lures

https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/owner-dh-41-double-hooks 2/0 was the smallest, I'd like a little smaller to be honest but the seem to work well.

Caught the JD on a coconut ice zman - they seem to like the pink.

Re: Deep diving lures

Yeah went for doubles. Didn't like the idea of using trebles on the yak, and didn't know if that lure would swim ok with singles.

With doubles it swims with a really wiggly butt, seems to work :)

Re: Deep diving lures

4 Decent snaps and a JD. I couldn't see more than 3m in front of me from 6am till 10am the fog was that bad. So I kept close in to the cliffs and just trolled around. If you didn't have a fish finder with GPS charts, you'd be lost in seconds. I literally had to stare at the screen and keep the littl...

Deep diving lures

After some recent success trolling a lure I've been looking around for a smallish lure that works at kayak trolling speeds down to 9-10m. All that I can find info on is the Dr Evils that aren't sold here anymore. Had a look around Marine Deals today but the only deep divers were large big game lures...

Re: chill pod lid

One of the biggest problems with the pod is that it's not air tight which lets the cold escape.

Go to a Hardware store and get some draft stopper (about $15).

Makes a real difference.

Got 7 eater's, no monsters.

Thought I'd try trolling that new Catch White Warrior beta bug on the way in.

Caught a nice KY within seconds :)

Re: Whangaparaoa 14/04

I had several Rapalas but sold them due to no luck. I often took them out and forgot to put over the side when I paddled out :( Hitting NN in the morning. Going to try a different style slider from Daiwa and a Catch jitterbug. Weather looks awesome all week, might have to do a double mission :)

Re: Fun Fishing with Ferry's

This map shows the ferry routes.

It looks like they are suppose to follow the main channel into the harbor and not cut across close to Devonport heads to save a little time/gas.

The red dot is around where I was - well away of where they are suppose to map going by this.
