Re: Whos hand does this hook belong to

Sadly the glove did not survive. Happened while fishing off the back of Saddle Back Island took about 40 or 50min to paddle back to Ngamotu Beach. Kahawai pulled the hook at the side of the yak. First up was an xray to make sure it wasn't close to anything that might do damage, then a local. The bar...

Corrosion protection

Finding the joys of salt water mixing with electrical connections. Whats everyone using to protect your electrics? At the moment I'm just undoing all connectors and spraying with contact cleaner after each trip.

Re: Carrots carrots carrots

Gurnard are the best eating fish if only they put up a decent fight once you get them off the bottom. What we need is a fish that fights but has the same flesh as a Gurnard. First world problems eh.

Carrots carrots carrots

An oddly still day and an early get away from work meant a few hours free to go for a fish. Got to my spot off Himatangi around 3.15. Fishing was slow after 30 minutes the rod tip hadn't even budged another 30min went by and I had 1 carrot in the bin but bites were still few and far between. Eventua...

Solid fishing off Himatangi again

Weather settled down enough for a paddle today still a little lumpy and a horrible surf to paddle in and out through. Got to snapper (44 and 45cm) and a 60cm fatty of a Kahawai in about 40 minutes and then the sharks turned up reeled in a couple of spineys and then a blue about half the length of th...

First trip of the year, sunset fish

Finally got to scratch the itch and got out for a paddle for the first time this year. Launched from Himatangi at 6.30pm hooked up a small Kahawai paddling out and a couple more after setting the anchor. Started getting some big bites but nothing would stay on the hook until a nice fat Kahawai was o...

Himatangi 30/12

Paddled out around 7.30 anchored up in about 16m had 38cm Kahawai in the bag 20 min later then came 3 hours of little bites and not much else. Just as I was about to call it a day 3 snapper landed best of 45cm and 2 long range releases that felt bigger. Good fun fighting on the little spin rod.

Re: Himatangi

Was using Bonito. With these big spring thunderstorms around a morning session might be alright. I need to sort some problems I identified last weekend so my morning will be on the couch watching the all blacks.

Re: Himatangi

I've only been fishing off the kayak since the end of last summer. Himatangi is the first time I have gone back to the same spot closest to home which is good because being from the naki I don't trust the weather forecast and tend to look at webcams and out the window to decide when to head out.

First proper trip

Took the kayak out for its first proper trip. Launched off Himatangi beach and paddle out about 1km. Dropped anchor and had 4 good kahawai within an hour so called it a day.
