Re: Boating Question

The outboard will have to change, not the boat

Some small outboards (evinrude I think is one) allow for conversion to long/extra long shaft very easily

Ask your outboard supplier, or it may be detailed in the owner’s manual

Re: Boating Question

If you’ve got the boat on the trailer and the motor mounted on the transom stand to one side of the outboard then eyeball the bottom of the keel and look aft: the anti-cavitation plate on the outboard should be at the same height as the keel. If it is you have the correct shaft length on your outboa...

Re: Anyone Familiar With These Kayaks?

the kayak in the first link you provide looks fine. id pass on the second one. to be able to sell it for this price i am guessing it will be made in the far East, having drawn considerable inspiration from a well known NZ/American brand(s) looking at the hull shape in the pictures disregard people w...

Re: Braid snapping

12lb Tasline is a good 8 carrier braid that is tested to break at 20lb and you can support NZ manufacturing at the same time

No dye or coatings on it either.

Re: Whats a good Jig Head size

Given where you are fishing, in my view 3/0 is the largest jig size hook you want and 2/0 and 1/0 are more suitable at times, e.g. Winter

Re: Whats a good Jig Head size

3/8oz & 1/4oz 6" tails might be slightly large for the area 15 or 20lb fluoro trace and finding a braid that plays nicely is always fun ps - if you think the trace recommendation is a bit light, it is a matter of luck; if a decent snapper's teeth come down square on 50lb they will crush it like a 10...

Re: Ocean Kayak Trident 15 (2017)

IMG_0761.JPG the full size wheeleez are the only way to go across the soft stuff, and i dont regret buying them however, i tend to drag my kayak into the water until it is floating and them unstrap the wheeleez, pull them out from under the yak, and then open the spring pins on each end to remove t...

Re: Ocean Kayak Trident 15 (2017)

if you have given up kayak fishing because you found sitting on the deck for any period of time too uncomfortable, or you are about to give it up for this reason, i encourage you in the strongest terms to at least try a kayak with a suspended seat - i think it will keep you in the sport, or get you ...

one thing you might want to do before you slice your finger open like i did is knock the sharp corners off the aluminium extrusion with a file - it only takes 10 minutes or so to do them all. its a bit of a sod having to knock the anodising off i know

a better day today, a 50cm and a 59cm. not troubled by small fish today, which is always nice

a bit more breeze today and the trident cuts through it nicely without submarining or porpoising, very impressed

washed up & relaxing, a good day out

Re: Ocean Kayak Trident 15 (2017)

got out this morning, very pleased with this yak - it is good for a sustained speed of 4.0-4.2 knots, about 7.5km/h fully loaded, even into the SW on the way home which is what i bought it for. you can do 5 knots if you are fit enough (I'm not). the extra length really pays off when the water cuts u...
