Re: The Most Dolphin Encounters On A Kayak

Hey Rob and Janet What a cool buzz having the dolphins come to play. I've had quite a few encounters when paddling - they cruise in and check me out when paddling but haven't hung around for a play. This has happened at Paps, Wilsons, Opito, and a couple of Spot X's :geek: One time at Matapaua a lon...

Re: Rowing for Fish

Have thought about waka ama and rowable craft from what ive seen for the price you may as well get a small tinny with motor , if you can build a light rowing skiff with no out riggers go for it

Re: Rowing for Fish

Cool looking design.

The potential price point is too high for me though. I'd need to see a pretty compelling argument for why this row boat would be a better option than a kayak.

What are the main benefits?

Would be a priority to find where the tetra is leaking and resolve that.

Great news you've got a kid into it... towing you home in no time ]:)

Re: Thoughts on prowler elite 4.5

Had one a long time ago. Was a good performer. I obtained a long thinish bag I placed between my bag for tackle and baits.

Got me some great fish and was a major step up from my Q Kayaks Escapade... seems like an awfully long time ago now :|

Re: Pre trip planning

Papa Aroha as a base is a great idea.

Don't make too many plans. Call in to Robs shop in Coro and get the low down on where the fish are biting at the time.

Yeah I agree. Near the harbour entrance is a good option. Have got some nice ones both off the rocks and the kayak there.

Re: West Coast

That's awesome footage!! What a privilege... those Maui Dolphins are critically endangered. Only about 100 left of them. It would be great for you to let The Taranaki DOC people know what you got to see. Hopefully the good karma for doing that will return you all the snaps and carrots you ever want.

Same thing happened to my pair a year or two ago. Contacted Rasdex and they resealed them for me. From memory I just had to pay the courier fees.

Re: What's the maximum size livie?

Use the average size kahawai as a minimum.

Small ones will get hit by too many kahawai.

Or, try and catch some jack mackerel. They are kingfish candy in my opinion.

Interesting technique, dropping two jigs on the same line. Looks like great fun.

What weight and type jig are they and how do you tie them on?
