Re: Easter weekend

Fishing was on fire for Kahawai, Horse mackerel and other bit's and pieces. I got destroyed by a big Kingfish on my Gurnard rig (200m on the first run) After being towed a good 500m my dropper loop on the 40lb leader gave way. Was always going to happen with pressure like that. (could have bit the 2...

Plagues of kahawai had been reported across the coast. Still some people had done well. The top fish were : Kingfish - 9.07kg Tuna - (No Albaco...

Re: Hawkes Bay Snapper Plague - 25/2

Top stuff there, well done  . Interested to know your set up. Cheers. The way me and dad did it was wiring through the front hatch, Mounted a battery bracket below the hatch, then i run my transducer line back to my hatch at my end of the yak. Now the thing is mounting the transducer on the i...

The weather was looking good for a saturday mission so loaded up, and got over to tongoio arriving just as the sun came up. well a forecast .3m wave height was quite off. There were 3 sets pushing in over a metre. didn't fancy the landing. So pulled the pin and headed south to Te Awanga, beautiful l...

Re: Tongoio Kingfish Madness

In the video, when you grabbed it from the tail I was waiting for all hell to break loose. The first go i got at the fish (when it was swimming alongside the yak) It was off cam but the first go i had at the tail it quite frankly dealt to me , i couldnt hold on so i had to let go. then i had anothe...

Re: This weekend!

Hi Herman, The at Tongoio is fairly easy but a little more exposed to swell. All you have to is time a wave right and your away. Usually just one dumper. Same on the way back in. Today i was specifically targeting Kingfish, I managed to hook onto a very nice fish of 15 kilos on a live mackerel. Land...

Launched from the beach at around 6.30 and quickly found the bait schools at the 15m mark. Along with Kingfish ! And a lot of them. Schools ...

Tongoio Beach 21st Jan

With a great forecast i headed out to Tongoio beach for a change of location. This turned out to be a great call with the conditions staying at 5 knots or less, barely any swell and good water temperature and visibility. P1210012.JPG The depth drops away much faster north of Napier, it didn't take l...
