Re: What we have to work with.

Sweet, good luck on the mods. There is a heap of flat deck up front to fix gear to. I may be wrong but take extra care with storing these boats out of the sun as these ones have less UV stabilisers in the plastic, this way you' :) ll get a good life out of them.

Re: Tunes on the water

I recently took mine on a solo 90km trip up the coast, saved me having to talk to myself.......as much.
Its better than earphones as you still can hear what is going on around you.

Re: Ocean Kayak Cabo

Great set up mate, I like those modifications where you dont have to drill/chop into the kayak. I'll have to do something similar for my sounder battery box to fix it in place, cheers for the idea.

Re: Getting together

Sweet, if there is a bit of wind, Karetane gives us a couple of options as we can have the BBQ and  on the beach or on the grass past the boat ramp.

Re: Getting together

Its long overdue I recon! I'm keen to see who we can round up for a spot of fishing and finish off with BBQ. If the weather stumps us for getting offshore we can shortcut to the beers and BBQ. We should pick an easy launch spot like Karetane or Shag Point or Nth end of Waikouaiti Beach maybe. That w...

Your advice is great, it really is the surf down here and changable weather that you have to keep your eye on. My go-to spots ar...

Re: Shark information for Otago

Hey Steve In the13ish years ive been kayak fishing off the otago coast, I've have had around 7 encounters with sharks so far, twice Ive been circled closely when not targeting them and when targeting them have had some great sleigh rides. The most exciting ride was from an estimated 100-150kg porbea...

Its probably about time us Otago kayakfishos got a bit more organised and contributed to the forum, whats the go with setting up an Otago regional forum section? Its always great to read what everyone is up to, i'm guilty of alot of reading but not much posting.

Re: Ocean Kayak Sprinter

http://kayakfishingotago.wordpress.com/outfitting/gear-designs/ I know there are electric bilge pumps on the market etc but have to power it and not as reliable as a hand pump. Great stuff mate , wish you were a bit closer and we could head offshore. Have you checked out the early Sea kayaks Paul C...

Re: Ocean Kayak Sprinter

I agree about bulkheads being standard, and yea I like to have at least a couple of airbags in all my kayaks. Another feature I would like to see is an aftermarket part for SOT kayaks, is a purpose made hand bilge-bilge port. When in rough/white water and water is washing over the deck, being able t...
