Wanted surf kayak

Hi guys,

I’m after a surf kayak or wave ski to play in the surf when fishing isn’t an option. Does anyone have an old cobra strike or similar they want to get rid of? I’m 6” 5’ so preferably something with adjustable foot positions.

Re: Loading kayak on car...

I use a “caryak” to load a double kayak on my Toyota surf. I have a new wagon now and 2 kayaks so am using a trailer instead, mainly so I don’t drip salt water on the new wagon. Possibly a bit precious but does mean the caryak is no longer needed. Happy to sell for $50 +postage. Works like you see i...

Re: Help struggling getting the Kayak to the water

I have a caryak loading bar which works fine for loading a 4.9m double onto a Hilux surf. Fairly low tech solution checkout the caryak YouTube video to see how is works. Also I sometimes just put a towel on the back of the surf and drag it off the back. Once the back of the kayak can rest on the gro...

Re: Tandem fishing kayak recommendations

Hi Mental, what is the cost of the fortress going to be, and is there going to be an angler version? $899 for the Fortress including two paddles and two seats (as shown) There may be an angler version, we just need to work on the locations of rod holders etc, there are a couple of recesses for Rail...

Re: Tandem fishing kayak recommendations

We cruise around 7-8km/h about the same as the guys in singles I fish with. Have peaked at 10 km/h over short distances. If you have the storage space etc I would keep the single and get the Malibu or V 2+1 as these will be more stable 3 up. But if you definitely only want one then the Cabo will be ...

Re: Tandem fishing kayak recommendations

Hey mate, I got a Cabo a couple years ago. Most yakkers will tell you to get two singles but the reality is that I can get out more often and go further for longer because by wife is more comfortable in a double. Also you can paddle it solo if you want so it's a good option. Cabo is quite a bit long...

Re: Advice on PFD's

Ran a Chinook for about a year before the UV started to have its wicked way with the nylon. Then again I do spend a lot more time on the water than your average bear. What year was the jacket HLD? The nylon on the chinooks was known to fade badly but has supposedly improved a lot in the past couple...

Live bait torpedo

Hi Guys, Anyone know if these are available in NZ? http://stealthkayaks.co.za/accessories/stealth-live-bait-torpedo/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . Also interested in opinions as to pros and cons of these vs a live bait tank. Obviously a bit of drag when paddling but a lot less has...

Re: The 10 things I wish I knew when I first started kayak fishing.

5. Everyone will think you’re a weirdo If you fish from a kayak just expect to cop flack from everyone. People who don’t do it (especially boaties) will give you weird looks, avoid you at social gatherings, and generally just disown you. This includes females. Maybe it’s the sense of moral su...

Sullivan's Bay - Sat 31 Oct

Hi guys, first TR but not much to report in terms of catching. Really just wanted to flag an issue with the gate at top of Sullivan's. It's meant to open at 6:00am but got there around 6:50 and was still shut. Another yakker turned up who had been driving round for half an hour looking for another a...

Hey mate nice work. Spent the weekend in a caravan at Martins bay, (mint campground btw). Got out around 7:30am on the 26th and got 3 snaps straight off the beach in 13m before 8am. Best one around 50cm. Nothing else for the next few hours. Shouldn't have slept in!

Re: Looking into buying a starter kayak,is this good enough?

Hey mate I would go second hand and try and find one with a few bits and pieces thrown in cause it all ads up. You might need to stretch the budget. E.g. PFD and paddle is obviously essential and a fishing PFD with all the pockets etc will make your life easier. For me beach wheels, drogue, rod hold...

Re: Best websites for weather forecasts

I like the coastguard app costs a couple dollars but gives you live wind speed readings from a number of bouys. If the forecast is marginal I check the wind speed out on the water before getting out of bed incase it's a write off. Also includes a forecast which I think is same as metservice and ther...

Re: Best VHF to buy...

I recently got a 6w uniden. Was one of the pricier models $300+ but works great and has good battery life. Btw I also turtled with the missus in our tandem and also knackered my iPhone 5. Front button was poked so Siri would spark up randomly at inconvenient times. Anyway dr mobiles in takapuna fixe...
