Try a lighter jighead, 1/2 oz will go better in waters under 20m deep. You could even go lighter once you get a better feel for what you are doing.

Re: Braid snapping
Check the guides on your rod that there isn't a crack in one of them.
I 2nd the tasline elite line recommendation. I have it on my softbait set and it's great. Available from kaveman tackle.

Re: Kayak fishing for trout in Rotorua
I went to Tarawera in February a few years ago. Launched at a little ramp right at the end as far as you can drive. Then paddled out a couple of kms towards the left to where the bush comes right down to the lakes edge and it is 20m deep right in close. My fishfinder decided this was the time to shi...

So true about the lake trout and some lakes are better than others. Tarawera vs Rotorua for example.

Re: A little story about Shimano - and why I will never buy them again.
UPDATE. Well well... I just got a call from Shimano. They said there had been a miscommunication and my reel had been logged as a standard repair and not a warranty claim. They apologized (which was the main thing I was looking for), are fixing it for free, and sending me out a free jumper. :y: Who...

It's going to be a struggle to find an SD card of either 512mb or 1gb these days. Your best bet would be aliexpress I reckon.

On a budget, I'd go for something like this - https://www.smartmarine.co.nz/products/ ... b/details/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What sort of jigging? Mechanical for kings, slow pitch, other slow jigs?

How'd you get on? I usually fish there too, I haven't attempted the squid off the kayak yet either.

Yep there are plenty around at the moment. Have had reasonable success this year at mission bay.

There are very small ones around now. Mid May was when we started getting into some reasonable ones last year.

Re: Land Based Fishing around Auckland Central
I saw someone catch an eagle ray off the wharf by the cloud.
The squid will be there now but they will be very small. If you want to get some practice in on the squid start with the smallest jigs you can find.

That looks good! Now you need to buy more rods and reels so it doesn't look so empty.

Re: 4000 size reel combo recommendations?
I've had a Shimano symetre 4000 for a over 2 years and haven't had any issues at all and have knocked over some nice fish. That should be in your price range.

Re: Egi setups and squid fishing
Hi mate Yes using dedicated egi gear makes a real difference to your catch rates. I fish with a blackhole rod and a daiwa emereldas reel but any small 1000-2500 reel will do the job. Make sure you get decent braid too. I would suggest you head down to Yeehaa Fishing in Panmure and have a chat to the...

Re: The first New Zealand Adventure Kayak Fishing Show
I just picked up a jig star slow jerk 3 ounce matched to a trini 10. Can't wait to give it a run on some spring snapper after watching that video.

Re: Errrr Sharks?
I've only seen one and it was a 200kg bronzie that took a liking to my slider. I played him for 45 mins on softbait gear thinking it was a king until he jumped out of the water 2m from my kayak. You've never seen me cut my line so fast! He dragged me half way to Waiheke and I was only fishing off Be...

Re: Short sunday TR using bibbed lures
Cheers. I've only picked up one snapper doing this up near army bay. I think you are right about being near foul, otherwise the snapper on sand are looking down for their food.
