Ideal kids kayak

Hi Guys. Have been tasked with finding an ideal kayak for general use for kids aged 8 - 18 for our Sea Scout group. We are located in Wellington so will mainly be harbour and a bit of river kayaking. Will be getting a grant hopefully to replace our 30+ year old plastic and fibreglass yaks. Not going...

Re: Sail things I should know?

Could be really cheap and use a large golf umbrella.
If it has a clear clear section would be even better.
Just have to find a way of tying it down.

"Container Door" Fishing Kayak

hi there,

Have someone who is thinking of purchasing one of the 3.7m single fishing kayaks off Container door website.
Has anyone used one or know what they are like?
Make/Model imitation?
Seems like a good deal for a cheap fishing kayak with rudder and paddle @ $499

Any help appreciated

Re: Kayak food

I'm with Mad Mike on this.
I have about 4 nut bars in my life jacket pocket, and a filled roll in a ziplock bag for lunch or whenever.
Also the water is an obvious one, a 1 litre water bottle in the kayak and another one in the chilly bin if you are out all day.

Re: Feel Free Lure Kayaks?

I use a Feel Free Moken 13 to paddle round in.
Not bad, but is a bit heavy (30kg).
Would love to upgrade to a profish, but for the amount I do is sufficient as I do not stray to much.
Find it stable enough but does not have a high seat.

Re: Tuna

If needed I could assist with being mother ship.
Have a 5.7m tinny that could be used as a base.
Will have to get a wife pass though.

May even pull the yak out as well and let the boy drive the boat

Assistance with What to Buy for Scout group

Hi guys, Have been tasked with finding a suitable kayak for our Sea Scout group. We currently have 6 old plastic sit-in yaks which have seen better years, and some leak hence the reason we are looking. Kids ages range from 11 - 18 and will be used in both river and Sea conditions. Want advice on wha...

have been thinking of going out that way, obviously on a calmer day, what is the fishing like out that way?
An do you have far to go to get a decent feed.
Don't mind doing a bit of snorkeling as well.

Re: Cutting through hooks

I had the unfortunate incident hook into me and luckily a boat nearby assisted me getting it out of my finger. Have used my crimping tool lately to test that I could cut hook if needed, and yes it does work. Now always carry it with me on the boat/yak just in case.

Swell map addition for Wellington Harbour

Asked Swellmap to add a forecast for Wellington harbour.
They went one better and did 3 sites, so could be good to see best area round harbour to get out.

Let me know how this goes so we can give them some feedback.

Re: Dud VHF Charger?

Got myself a Uniden MHS050 Handheld VHF from Burnsco (one of those yellow floating ones) and the charger did the same, lit up when charging and then just died.
Took it back and it ended up being the charging cradle which they swapped out for me.

Because I used an aluminium post I found it was not strong enough so had to use a tent pole as well, works a charm now
