Re: A quick overniight mission up north

What awesome scraps. It would be both heart breaking and hilarious to see that reel disintegrate in front of you. I have this mental picture of the reel 'exploding' and bits flying off all over the place :D :D :D

A quick overniight mission up north

We were booked in for a 4 night stay at Tauranga Bay over QB long weekend but then the weather forecast turned crap and we decided to pull the pin. But I saw both Thursday's and yesterdays weather could hardly be better so decided to do a quick one night mission whilst the weather Gods were being ki...

What a cracker of a morning!

Shot out to a local this morning for a short mission before work and before the crappy weekend weather rolls in. Started a bit late and only got paddling around 6.30am. Scooted across to the point and nabbed 6 nice sized livies which I thought would be enough....it was...sort of. Didnt have to paddl...

Nice report Blair. By all accouts it sounds like it was a great weekend. Pity about the weather, but that can't be controlled.

Re: Big swells but big reward

Hi Tony. Ryan Griffiths sells them -around $120 i think....might be wrong. I think you know how to get hold of him via web site or FB page??? Can send you mobile number if you need it. Well worth the money - helps keep the fish in good condition, simplifies transportation of fish home, easier to kee...

Re: Big swells but big reward

As yet i've never had a sharped toothed fella harass me after bleeding...i guess there's always a 1st time though....been taxed many many times though especially over the Nov to Feb period when they are lurking in close in big numbers. Prefer to bleed them straight away to minimise the fillets 'spoi...

Big swells but big reward

Headed out for a fish yesterday morning at one of my regular spots. After the big winds and rain on Saturday and combined with a new moon I expected the swell to be big.....and it was. It was nice and calm launching in the bay but as I moved further out into open water it became 'now you see me, now...

Re: Torpedo 7 Fishing Kayak

Hey mate I have never ridden one of these so I can only go off the pictures; - Definitely an entry level kayak but if you just want to 'test the waters' and see if you like kayak fishing before spending lots of $'s then perhaps thats a good thing - At only 3.7m it is not made for long missions out w...

Re: What keeps spitting my livies, without leaving a mark?

I have had that happen quite regularly over the last few weeks. I'm picking its kahawai who have'nt got a big enough gob to swallow the livie whole, especially if its a nice big livie. Bearing in mind KY attack from the tail and a king will take a livie head on. Generally I find that when a king hit...

Re: One of those rare mornings

Yeh a truly exceptional morning. Luckily i was not missed at work until I eventually got to my desk at 10.30. The picture below shows a 7th snapper I got on a regular soft bait just before things went 'off' - It was well legal and over 35cm - looks like a tiny undersized baby next to the two bigger ...

One of those rare mornings

Shot out early to a local spot early on Fri with the intention of being back on the beach by 8.30am and at my desk by 9.30am but that plan went straight out of the window when the bigger snapper rocked up. After getting a dozen XXXL sized livies I put one on the circle hook tossed it out behind me a...

It might be a little old but that is a bloody awesome kayak. Just buy a livebait torpedo, which are not expensive, and its ready to go trolling for kingfish.

Hi Macca

You might be interested in joining the North Shore Fishing Club - I think its really cheap and those guys have regular fishing get together in your neck of the woods. I know they have a weekend trip planned for Matauri Bay weekend after next which should be a goodie.

Re: Another lost kayaker Whangaparoa area

Geeze seriously!! Don't people look at the bloody wind forecast...kayak fishing 101.

The fact that they found the kayak together with the PFD is hopefully a sign that it floated away off the beach and nothing more serious.

Re: So, who's getting the new plastic Stealth when they come out?

Auckland ports, have been having issues, entirely unrelated to covid and much more in the flavour of, 'modernisation' gone wrong. Yeah but it doesn't add up to nearly three months of delays for those who ordered their Stealth kayaks and have yet to receive them. Something else has gone wrong. It's ...

Re: Lost a Kayaker?

Its looking like a worst case scenario - winds around Wellington wre up to 130km/h with a terrifying 10m swell. I see they found his kayak anchored up. Those anchors unless set up and used properly can be very dangerous. I would never ever use one, they scare the hell out of me....but each to their ...
