Re: Fishing buddy
Probably easiest for you to join the North Shore Kayak fishing club. They have regular Sat/Sun fishing days Whangaparoa and north. I know they are doing a fishing day this Sat from Jones Bay/entrance to Tawharanui

That look like a real beauty. Looks in great condition with some nice add ons. Someone is going to be a happy new owner. If I didn't already have my beloved Stealth 555 that would be a great option.

Re: Washing down car and yak with fresh water.
Just a simple 20L water container. Splosh it liberally all over the kayak before putting it on the roof. I got one of those fancy pants systems with a water tank connected to the cigarette lighter which works alright. But quite frankly just a 20L container of water is both cheaper and quicker and do...

Re: Four days in the far north
Yeh its an awesome spot with lots of options and will be back there over Waitangi weekend. I used to think that fishing around Stevensons was 'the bomb' but from multiple experiences and chatting to other fishos its not as 'hot' as you would logically think perhaps because it has been hammered hard ...

Re: Four days in the far north
Yeh. Really looking forward to doing a mission off Port Charles/Stoney Bay/Little Bay/etc at end Jan...Hopefully the fish have finished all their spawning activities and the fizzz boats are not so abundant and I can land a few decent ones. No never done Piha but keen to give it a go on a calm day. M...

Re: Four days in the far north
I don't think there is one correct strategy for fighting big fish in the shallows and over gnarly foul. There seems to be two schools though either 1) Gently gently playing the fish which means backing off on the drag and letting it run and then slowly and gently bringing it in OR 2) Crank the drag ...

Re: Four days in the far north
Noice! Do you reckon with even more drag on the bigger slammers you'd have stopped that moocher in time? Possibly. Its always difficult in skinny water (7m) especially when there is a gentle take, which is pretty typical with a big one, and then all of a sudden they wake up and you realise you have...

Four days in the far north
Just back from a wonderful four day long weekend break up at Tauranga Bay Holiday Park which I can highly recommend if you haven't been there before. Lovely camp site and a great beach to launch off (if the surf isn't big). It was great to unwind and long overdue Friday arvo and Sat morning missions...

Re: So, who's getting the new plastic Stealth when they come out?
Is it just me or does it seem like they are paddling these things over from SA? For some reason I thought they were due here last month but haven't seen any news of them arriving? I'm not buying a fusion but very keen to see how they compare to others. Apparently early/mid Dec now...a lot of people...

Re: A great morning out
Awesome morning by the looks. Did ya get a length or weight of your snapper? I had a similar morning yesterday out of Army Bay. Few small snaps for dinner, the brightest goat fish I've ever seen and a donkey snap (around 16lb) not to mention a cheeky johnny! It was my first time seeing a goat fish ...

Re: First Kingi for 2020
I have been catching a few rat kingis over the last few outings and I was so keen to get that first legal kingi for the season. I made for an early start, on the water at before six enjoying the sunrise but the baiting so very slow. I was expecting a feeding frenzy with the moon setting as well as ...

Re: A great morning out
What's that funky coloured fish called? Is it the softbait in his mouth or does he have feelers coming out of his mouth? Good on you for letting the big one's go. Anything over 60 cm I let go too. Its a goat fish, reef dwellers and the brightest one i've ever caught...phot doesnt quite do it justic...

A great morning out
Had a super morning mission around Kawau Island area yesterday morning. With the wind forecast to be a bit gusty and the notoriously rough northern channel to cross from the Janes Bay I was a little apprehensive, especially for the return journey which I was picking for being rough against wind and ...
