Re: Sullivans 7/3

I've used the 5 turn surgeon knot for the last 8 years....never ever had a single knot failure even on some hard pulling kings up to 15kg. Easy and quick to tie. Slim and does not catch on the eyes (if you trim it off properly). Wouldnt know how to tie an FG knot but I dont need to.

Re: Knots damaging guides?

I've never had my rod eyes damaged by the braid to leader knot. I use the 5 turn surgeons knot which is ; - Slim and doesn't affect casting distance - Super strong rating and the knot itself has never ever failed me over the 8 years or so i've used it - Can be quickly and easily retied on the yak af...

Re: Spur of the moment to Tiritiri Island

And Rabbit - I also had the ego issues a few years ago but over it now. A photo of a clearly living, dark red kelpie is way better to show mates than a faded dead old donkey... I hardly ever keep more than 3 snapper either. I'm with you on that...i still struggle some times with the old ego wanting...

Re: Spur of the moment to Tiritiri Island

I like 45 - 50 cm fish. Nice size fillets. If you catch snapper from >20 metres it is likely that they won't survive due to barotrauma. This is based on some good studies from Australia. If I catch a big snapper >40 metres, it is usually toast by the time it hits the surface. Unfortunately, big sna...

Re: Spur of the moment to Tiritiri Island

Personally i've always had this mildly shitty 'after taste' when taking a big old snapper....in my heart of hearts i've always felt that taking the big ones is not the right thing to do when they had a good chance of going back and surviving........but the old ego is a powerful thing and wants you t...

Spur of the moment to Tiritiri Island

After 'pulling the pin' on a planned Jones Day mission for Sat morning I decided.....'might as well have a big night' with Mr Jim Beam in front of the TV. Crashed at 10pm and woke at 6am to discover the weather forecast had improved dramatically. After some grumbling and mumbling from me missus I wa...

I have asked him to jump on the forum and make contact with you. Is there a facility on this forum to private message? Don't want to post other peoples private info on a public forum, especially without their permission. Cheers,

Re: Stealths

Hi Scottyboy. One of the Stealth guys has a 500 (5m) up for sale. Mean machines. Not the one attached which I only showed as an example. But that king was caught off Akl earlier this week on a softbait set up in 3m of water - epic 35 minute fight. You wont be sorry getting a Stealth....beautiful kay...

Re: looking for a stealth under 5m ?

I have posted a note on the Stealth owners 'closed' WhatsApp group. If you possibly want a new one I know that orders are now being taken up until end June for the next container load scheduled to arrive Nov. Awesome kayaks.

Re: Bounty Hunter Day Trip

Cheers mate. Always good value on BH. Some nice kings caught. Stevie created a bit of initial interest but because it is made of a plastic derivative the guys immediately found it heavy, ponderous, lacking in responsiveness, hard to steer, sub-optimal layout and if you tried to use it too fast it st...

Bounty Hunter Day Trip

A great day out on Bounty Hunter yesterday. A couple of guys pulled some good sized kings out at Little Barrier with one involving a big, big bronzie taxing one of the guys next to the yak. The tail hit was so hard on the kayak that it caused a roll over. But the rest of the guys came in fast to hel...

Cheers mate. Yes a really fun morning out. One of those mornings where 'the stars align' and it all comes together without the frustrations of snags and tangles.

Jones Bay and two kings

Took a chance that we could launch from Jones Bay and fish the lee side of Tawharanui Peninsula and if the north westerly would allow, venture out a little wider to Mauri Reef. Launched a fraction after 6am in pretty calm conditions and scooted straight across the bay to the calm side. Livies were s...

A short session on Sat and fresh kingfish for dinner

Decided to head a bit north and have a quick fish for a king before the forecast southerly rose above 15 knots. On the water, in the dark, at 5.30am and found the livies relatively quickly. Loaded up with 8 in the Stealth built in self-reticulating livie tank (what an awesome feature). Trolled the e...

Re: Hi from Cambridge area with a with Kayak Dilemma.

Hi, if you want speed and ease of paddling have you considered a Stealth, as that is exactly what you will get with those kayaks.
