Re: fishing during the week
I'm almost always keen for a fish during the week, though I'm currently limited to a borrowed club kayak, but give me a call 09 556 0536 during the week. Currently looking for a job so my schedule is pretty open.

Re: New Kayaker seeking advice #1
There is so much info out there it is ridiculous, but I have time so I'll give you a very brief explanation. Point the bow of your kayak in the direction of your drift. Cast your soft bait directly in front of you, letting it sink to the bottom. Once it is on the bottom, set your bail and reel in en...

Re: New Kayaker seeking advice # 2
Are you iki'ing your fish prior to trying to stow them? I would assume so, but thought it worth asking. Trying to rotate with a larger fish flailing about would be very troublesome. That said, practice is a good idea. I saw this in a video, can't remember which one, and I thought it was a good idea....

Fishing Near Whangarei tomorrow (or Thursday).
Anyone keen for a fish tomorrow (Wednesday)? Early morning would be cool, but looks like the bite time should be mid day. Thinking of going to Taiharuru or out around smugglers. Open to other places, and flexible with times. Let me know 09 556 0536.

Re: northland over xmas
Kerikeri area is all fishing well right now. I was up a week ago and it was great. If you have a sounder, just find some structure and fish on! The water was 21ish last week. It's a beautiful area to paddle, you will likely see dolphin pods and maybe a little blue penguin or two if you keep your eye...

Re: Which knot for mechanical jigging?
Sure didn't mean to stir up a hornets nest over knots here guys. MM, I was in your shop today asking about the direction of hook lay on your jig while waiting for fish and chips from next door. I'm running 60lb braid and 100lb flouro leader, with a PR knot to join them. I went ahead and tied my jig ...

Which knot for mechanical jigging?
When connecting the trace to the loop on a large butterfly or center weighted mechanical jig, what is the recommended knot? I googled like crazy and couldn't find anything. Someone suggested a triple-uni, but I'm not exactly sure how you would tie that one.

Re: Will my Shimano Catana 7' 6-8kg rod a bad tool for in the kayak?
Nothing wrong with a 6-8kg rod for the yak. I have ran anywhere from 6kg up to 60lb braid off my yak, and have used rods from 4'6" to 7'. Everything shy of a surfcasting rod will work, but some things will work better than others. My 5'6" softbait rod works great though sometimes I wish it...

Re: Does anyone eat Parore?
I shot three today out spearfishing. Gutted them on the spot. We will see how they go down. They are so easy to get right behind my house in the bay. Hard to say no to an easy feed.

How do dolphins impact the bite?
Went for a quick harbor fish last night and there was a pod of dolphins circling the place. Does this have a negative impact on fishing?

Alright so I'm sorry for being a noob but.. Would this reel work for trolling/jigging from my kayak? Been looking at setting something up in the 12-15kg range.

Re: Where in the world is everyone from.
Born in Portland, Oregon, USA. Grew up lake fishing for trout and bass, and river/ocean fishing for salmon. As I got older I spent most of my time backpacking the Cascades and Rocky Mountains, fly fishing for trout in high mountain streams. Also archery hunted for blacktail, mule deer and both Rocky...

Re: Heading to the States. Any requests?
As I am technically here on holiday visa status at the moment, I don't have to worry about GST. I'm just a tourist bringing along some fishing gear with me. Regarding a reel purchase, I'd be happy to buy a reel. That said, depending on the price I would need cash up front as I can't shell out a ton ...

Heading to the States. Any requests?
I'm headed back to the USA early next month and plan on getting a few must have fishing items that I can't seem to find here. I'd be happy to pick up a few things for club members if there is anything you need. Keep in mind, space is limited in my luggage so... Anyway, let me know.
