Here is a quick list of weather information sites in New Zealand that I use to check out the upcoming weather when planning trips.

The site links will probably take you to the Auckland region reports, you may need to change the report if you live outside of Auckland, like I said these are the link I use…

Metservice

The official state funded weather service provider, there guys supply recreational marine forecasts which are issued several times a day, there is always a report issued around 4:30am which I check just before I leave the house if I’m off for an early morning fish.

Swellmap

This is a great site to show you what the expected swell, wave height, and tides is expected to be up to seven days in advance.
> Auckland East Coast

Marine Weather

This site is very similar to Swellmap to present the swell, and wave sizes, they also supply tide, wind strength, and wind direction information.
> Auckland East Coast

Coastguard Nowcasting

Get weather updates while out on the water via your VHF, in Auckland tune into channel 21 to hear a continous weather forecast, very worth while listening to this throughout the day especially if you have paddled a fair way from home, you don’t want to find when it’s time to head home that you’ve got a 5km paddle into a strong head wind…
