Is Ocean Kayak bringing out anything new?

I asked this question of Johnson Outdoors Watercraft and I’m pleased to share with you this exclusive update direct from the the General manager himself, Tony Free

In answer to the recent question “Is Ocean Kayak bringing out anything new?”

Historically Johnson Outdoors brings out new kayak designs every year so nothing is unusual in that.

Our aggressive approach to new innovation is the key to Johnson Outdoors maintaining its position as the market leader and Ocean Kayak as the original inventors of the modern plastic sit-on-top recreational concept are the recognized global leaders in the field.

In fact no manufacturer in NZ makes more sit-on-top kayaks than Ocean Kayak.

Any person who keeps an eye on what we are up to would know that over the past 4 years we have bought to market the Prowler 13, Prowler 4.5, Venus 11, Malibu XL, Peekaboo and the Mysto.

We can correctly claim that Ocean Kayak in partnership with Stephen Tapp are largely responsible for promoting the recent awareness and growth in kayak fishing.

For Johnson Outdoors to maintain our number one position we have to continue to bring new and ground breaking innovation to the market.

Before the end of this year we plan to bring out two further exceptional Ocean Kayak fishing models.

One design is NZ generated and the other wholly USA generated.

It is fortunate that we have on staff at Johnson Outdoors NZ several keen and experienced kayak fishers with over 55 years of combined kayak fishing knowledge. Added to this we listen to what our customers tell us and expect that between the two proposed new models we will ‘tick all the boxes’ that our customers currently want in new models.

Over this winter we will progress the final NZ kayak design ‘fit out’ and will be incorporating local design concepts along with approaching recognized and experienced kayak fishers from around the country for suggestions and input.

And we expect in another couple of years the goal posts will have moved and Ocean Kayak will again be recognizing the need for further new innovation and be bringing out new fishing models in the ongoing search for the perfect kayak.

Meanwhile if you want to experience some great and exciting kayak fishing over the coming winter months, get a kayak now, join a kayak fishing club and don’t wait around for new models to show up in the summer because every year someone has a new model about to come out and why waste 7 or 8 months of quality fishing time?
