Had the day off so decided to hit rangi channel at 6am. After 6 snapper decided to call it a day.
After cleaning the kayak and resting up over lunch i decided to head up to army bay for the second sesh of the day. Wasn't very pleasant with fairly strong winds.
Hooked up to what I thought was going to be my trophy snapper and got the thing close to the yak. Without seeing colour it saw me and peeled line off my poor little stradic 4000 ci4+ and softbait rod.
After 20-30mins of slowly gaining line the fish surfaces and it's a 9kgs 91cm kingfish. Grab it by the tail and lift it over my legs. Realising I didn't have a knife I called over a bloke on a jetski and borrowed his to iki the fish then put it on ice.
Caught using 3/8 Oz Jighead and zman curly tail softbait!
After that battle I decided to call it a day. Yak kingfish Virgin no more.
