I guess as long as you can store securely and conveniently your VHF and Epirb, and it has a high back on it, you can't really go wrong...
Personally I use http://www.nrs.com/product/2157/nrs-cvest-mesh-back-pfd" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which ticks all of the above boxes imo
You may need to rethink your approach if you plan on sharing with those critters

I have a NRS c vest and thoroughly recommend it. It is well designed, comfortable has heaps of pockets including the radio one. Also since having this i have never once been bothered by crocs. Certainly ticks all the safety boxes for me.

I also had an NRS would I get another ??? hmmm doubt it, it frayed and went from orange to shade not recognizable in a short time
BUT in saying that I was lead to believe the new ones are a little more fade resistant , perhaps Limitless can update us on the one he is/was using...
I procrastinated for ages and bought a new Palm Kaikoura from the UK(It was too good deal at the time not to get), to date no fading, way more comfortable its just a better finished unit all-round IMHO ...
Madmike must of been using the Astral for a while now, be interested to see how they are going?
Here is a pic of Tech`s NRS looks better than my old one (link Below)and also the Palm Kaikoura(new Model) I think NZ is still on 4 year old models and there has been some good improvements to it...
