I'm currently Yakless but I've been enjoying the site for a while now so thought it was time I joined.

I moved to Maraetai (well, its actually Omana really) a while back and after watching people pull fish from the rocks (I've never fished before) I thought I'd go and buy a cheap rod and reel set and give it a crack in order to while away a few hours. Caught mostly wee fellas but one Snapper was big enough for the BBQ so home he came, yum!

Since then I've watched heaps of you guys launching from Omana and decided that it looks like a wonderful way to reach the bigger fellas beyond the rocks and have some fun and exercise too.

Trevor from YakAttack was extremely generous with his time and allowed me a test paddle on a couple of his demos and now a Yak is firmly on the shopping list. I'll just have to remain patient whilst the Yak fund grows.

Anyway great site guys with heaps of info and inspiration. Hope to see some of you out there in the hopefully not too distant future.

Welcome badger.
I remember about 9 years ago, just after moving to Beachlands, watching a guy fishing in a kayak near Flat island. I hadn't fished much before and I chatted with him when he came in ( he had a perception Swing) and was astonished to see he had half a dozen nice snapper.
2 months later I had my Viking Tempo.
In fact I still have it and still love it as it suits my purposes for a quick paddle, anchor up, bait, catch fish, go home, eat/giveaway fish.
Start off small with a second hand Espri or swing etc, the fish are pretty much there year around.
Hope to see you out there..

Welcome Badger.
I'm down the road from you in Beachlands. I've got an extra yak if you want to join me on the water sometime, drop you a PM if you like. (Hopefully heading out a couple of times this weekend if the weather's good.)

Still got the Profish Gavin?
Sundays looking good. I am on call but might be able to sneak out early.
Managed to get out last Sunday, kept 4 around 35-40 and threw back heaps under 35. All in 2-3 metres murky water not far off the boat shed and on bait just after dead low.

Yeah it's keeping the new one company under the house. You did better than I did on my last mission!
Sunday might be a goer, as long as it's an early one...

Thanks for the warm welcome folks.

Yeah I've been tempted by the Tempo Mitchfam just as a means to just get out there but then thought I'd hold off to get something a bit bigger with added flexibility that might suit me longer term.

Thanks for the kind offer GreenMamba. Drop me a pm once you've made plans for the weekend and I'll see if I can fit it in around work. Had my eye on the bait runner after seeing it on the sale page last night too mate, thought 'bugger' when I saw the sold post!
