Hello Forum,
my name's Daniel and I moved from Germany to New Zealand in 2011. I never got in contact with fishing rods, kayaks or even the sea at all my while live until a friend here in Dunedin took me out on a few kayak fishing trips this year.
He told me about his fancy jet kayaks before but I didn't really know what to expect. And you will probably say "That's not a yak, that's cheating!" and boat owners will probably laugh at it and call it a kayak. Well... I clearly would call it a kayak with the difference that I spent less time paddling and more time fishing ;) Anyway, I really enjoyed trawling for salmon in the Dunedin harbour and fishing for blue cod off the coast at Karitane and he made me a really affordable offer to buy one of his yaks. That's what it looks like: Image
I guess I'll hang out here every now and then and ask my rookie questions :D I have few minor projects in mind like a windshield, rod holders, an anchor system, a fish bag and maybe some modifications to the plastic seat.

See you out there :)

Very cool :y: It looks like a compact unit. I would love to see some pics of the unit to show how it is installed.

What is its speed and how long can you go?

I'll post some photos of the engine later. It's a 300cc 4 stroke with 9.5hp and according to the manufacturer has a top speed of 40-45kph. I cannot confirm this yet since it's always been a bit too rough. The 5 liter tank gets you quite far since it's waaay more economical than a jet ski.
My friend who I go fishing with has a small camera which I'd like to take with us the next time and hope to get some good action shots :)

Haven't tested it yet myself but this is what I found online:
www.deckjetwatercraft.com wrote: Fuel capacity is 2 gallons, about four hours of running time at full throttle, or up to 70 miles.
Took it for a spin at the peninsula this morning and the conditions were washing machine like. Got quite a bit of air time :wasntme: but to rough to fish.

Better late than never:

My mate's place is on the market so I will have to find a new place to store it. And since it doesn't get enough use (only twice last summer) I decided to sell it. I'll offer it here first for $1500 before it goes on Trademe.
