Just back from North of Whananaki Nth. The Marauder has been proving it's self again to be a very stable Yak. Marine forecast reckoned 1m Easterly Swell, but I reckon there was swell 1.5+ that times. Every now and again the swell was high enough for me to disappear. No good for Snorkelling the Sea side of the Islet I normally like ta work, and wasn't going ta try anchoring in that swell, so paddled and drift fished for a while. Was getting bite, but would drift off the spots too quickly with the swell driving the Yak. In the end I put the Yak where the Breeze and Swell would drive the Yak back to where I put in. Was just about ta call the fishing quits for the day as I drifted Land-side of the Islet, when I finally hook a Snapper. Nothing big but definitely Legal. That's diner sorted. In the Lee of the Islet, I final got out of the swell enough to decide it was time to get wet & see what was spear-able. Got ta purve the local fish life, but nothing the right size or flavour for my Kai. Vis was low too making hard to spot targets in time, but had fun lying on the bottom working on my bottom time.
So not a perfect, but still an enjoyable one. Got ta work on my Yak skills and work my Snorkelling fitness. Still playing around with the Yak set-up, so everyday I go out helps me test and refine it :y:
Just the odd pic of my Yak and the set-up so far:

Yep gives ya good access to the Four Islets between Mimi & Naki Norf. But not the best Conditions today for Free-diving though LOL.

The Bay just South of Rockells, Mangaiti Bay. Gives ya good access to the Four Islets. Did Elizabeth Reef on Mon 1/3/2011. Took me 3/4hrs paddle to do the 4km from Whananaki North Wharf Rd to the Reef on the tail-end of out going tide. Was a beaut of a day though. Blue Moa Moa everywhere.

Yes Elizabeth Reef is a special place never caught anything of note there but a wicked place that should be on everyone's bucket list I think...
