Not quite the traditional TR.

I was out in kina beach yesterday and cable bay today. I decided to leave the fishing gear in Auckland. It was agony to leave my gear behind. But decided it was best to spend quality time with family and friends.

I have 3 friends who are marine scientists. They work in fishery industry in Nelson. One of them is completing his master thesis. He loves kayak fishing and will be returning to Germany in 3 months. I made a suggestion to come to this site and learn from you blokes if you have the time and share your know-how.

He caught a cuda, lots of cod and some kahawai at cable bay. KY raw fish for lunch today.

Does anyone recommended a good blue cod fish and chip shop? This evening I went to The Sands fish and chip shop in tahunanui and it was bloody awful  :puke:

At $9.50 per blue cod fillet i expected fresh. Instead it was tough and the batter was a flaky mess.

That's my rant for the day :)

Yak is in the garage, battery is charged.... come get it....you know you want to.....
Tasman yakkers seem unwilling to post on here.... apart from a few... so try facecrack 'tasman yak fishers' for local info n hook ups.
I still push people towards this site for general yak tips etc
Easier to catch a blue cod n cook it than find a shop with fresh fish.....

Thanks Pete.

Yep I'll pass that info to him. I did stock up on some meat and packed it in my suitcase to take back to Auckland.

We'll be back in Nelson soon.

Okiwi bay is where it's at mate , huge runs of Gurnard over spring time, very sheltered waters too. Fished out of cable bay a few times catching gurnard on an orange Lucanus both times. Further on in the trip i fished with pete at kaiteriteri mint evening where we caught snapper and some really decent gurnard. Over at golden bay i picked up a horse of a blue cod and 3 gurnard too. Mint fishing over there. Just a trip i did back in 2015 while i was travelling the area.

I wish! German sausages, whitebait and venison. Also took home plenty of preserves. Good to have those contacts. We'll be back next year.

Nice one Epicskwid. I was reading your post before we made our way down. My fishing trip was cancelled due the tour guide drinking excessively the night before. |(
