On the water at 6.30 with everyone else. Landed a couple of 35cm fish early on then ended up out at the south end of Motuora Island with a FF showing heaps of fish, hooked up a 40cm on first drop of orange slider, thinking it was going to be a frantic 1/2 hour and full bag....but that was it..back on the beach at 12.30 with a decent enough feed...how did everyone else do?

Nice day. I only kept two around 35 cm. Could have had a limit bag of 30 cm fish and a load of sub legal snaps! I know of one decent kingi landed amongst all the rats around the saddle island reefs.

The last few trips out, the fish seem to be thinning out leaving better sized fish and in pretty good condition :y:

I didn't launch till just after noon (as everyone else was coming back). By this stage the tide was coming in at a good pace but the wind also picked up and I never have much luck soft-baiting when the drift to too fast. Caught a few undersized snapper half-way between Sullivans and Saddle Island... then in my futile attempt to catch some live bait behind the rocks of Saddle Island... I managed to entice a rat king, hooked right in the corner of the mouth... and in the tail for good measure (good to know my home-made sabiki rig is up for the challenge  )

I caught 2carrots, 3 snappers between 33-40cm, and 2 fat kahawai which reused as bait.
A lot of small snappers caught and released.
Great dawn service. Lest we forget.
