Saturday was a beautiful day out at Sullivan's bay. By the time I got up there with the traffic the beach was full of holidayers. Launched out about 9:15 just to try my luck out the top of the little Islet. Planning on catching a few snapper... got lots of strikes two under-sized... then nek minute... wham off went my line. Fortunately this guy headed out to deeper water instead of taking me into the rocks. Was a very fun BATTLE on 8lb braid. 80cm 15lb pretty happy for my first real fight.

Congratulations.
Snapper flasher rig?
Strip bait?
Lure?
If the latter, how fished?
Were there other kingis in the area or any signs or was this a lone ranger on a suicide mission?

Just by observing the pic closely looks like a softbait. My bet is the nuke chicken grub?

I saw no other sign of Kingi's around... possibly a lone ranger. Caught on light softbait gear - gulp curly grub (neon green and pink). What's funny is I headed out with a mate the Tuesday following, just off Orewa right on the big post marker out from the Estuary and there were a ton of rat's and snapper. We both pulled in rat's within 5 mins of fishing (mine again caught on the exact same softbait)... and my mate caught his on a baited ledger rig!kingiFiddler wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2018 8:25 pmCongratulations.
