Headed out for a late afternoon / evening fish. Hit the water at 5:30pm. The weather in Welly lately has been so hot that I would rather be in the water than on top. The water felt very warm. Not sure exactly what the temp was. The forecast was predicting 10kt winds but when I got to the beach it was stunning. Almost silky smooth and remained that way till around 10:30pm when I headed in!!! Surprisingly with the stunning conditions hardly anyone out.

Headed out to regular spot over sand, deployed anchor and burley and though fishing would be quite slow given the still conditions....Only 5 mins in, rod 1 starts to give a twitch then it was all on! Blistering runs for 5 or so mins and up pops Mr Kingfish! 82cm. Stoked. He came home for the smoker. He was taken on a whole dead Pilchard on a running rig. 30 mins later (on ledger rig with half a dead Pilchard) had another Kingfish on board-smaller one at 76cm also came home for smoking. There was fish which I think we're Kingfish breaching the water in packs about 100m in front of me at one stage.

Rest of the evening was quite slow going after that with a Kahawai being caught every so often. Keen as to get among some Snapper but eluding me so far this season... Had a great nights fishing all the same. Conditions 9.5/10
