So with the weather finally looking good I decided to take Friday off and do a solo weekend trip to Motuora Island.

It was a smooth paddle out and only took a little over an hour to make it from Sullivan's Bay to Home Bay.

Spent the days fishing and trekking, and the nights listening to waves lapping the shore on one side, and brown kiwi calling out on the other.

Excellent time, I recommend it 100%

P.S. The Island Ranger is a really good bloke.

P.P.S. Thanks to Rob Fort's Reel Screaming Kayak's episode for inspiring me to do this trip.

Long drop
Very basic outdoor cold water shower (It's a garden hose on a piece of wood)

I took 7.5ltrs of water, but you could use the water there if you boil it.

Ranger on island with his own house and all the mod cons - he's a real nice guy and I recommend befriending him :y:

There were 3 or 4 small groups of people in the camp ground while I was there, so it was pretty quiet. The ranger said it gets really busy over the school holidays, so if you want quiet I'd book quickly or wait till Feb.

Lots of pannies everywhere. I only had my phone camera (just bought a go pro session yesterday), and don't like using it on the water too much because - plop! And no where to store them cold so only took what I could eat.

On Saturday morning I counted 36 fishing boats all clustered around the north head of the island, so I stayed away from there :worried:
