The morning started early about 4:45 launch of wainui bay far north stocked up on fresh piper for an hour . Then anchord up with some bearly and caste..d some baits. Big fish must hav still been sleeping . So i put a sabikki in for a live bait . Not long and and i thought i had a good kawhai on but it was a massive jacl mackrel. Out he went under a ballon.
Just before sunrise my dead bait went off . Turned up a nice 40 cm snaper. Just as i got my one my mate just had to do better. Sure enough 10 minutes later he pulled up a 52 cm snaper.
It was about 8:30 now and i just saw my ballon go under . I let it take a bit of line then hit strike. I yelled hooked up .i let my amchor go just aswell because it run straight for the island wich was only about 35 meters away. Kayak and i was off . The battle only lasted about 8 minutes but i only just got the trace in one hand and gaffed it when my kayak washed up against the rocks . Dragged it on boared ,went back to my anchor and cleaned up got home about 11:00 am
