Ocean Kayak Release New Fishing Kayak – Prowler Ultra 4.1

The Prowler Ultra 4.1 is the latest innovation from Ocean Kayak. Based on the world wide top selling Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 there’s no other kayak with a heritage as good as this which includes all the latest features that are demanded by the discerning kayak fishermen on the market today.

The features on the new Prowler Ultra 4.1 include a new center storage hatch for your fishing tackle, this does not open directly into the hull so is safe to open on the water. The lid of the hatch is also set out to take rod holders in several positions and has, screw positions to accept hardware and an area set out to mount your fish finder without any need to drill holes in the hatch cover. An Ocean Kayak Click Seal front hatch has also been fitted, this has been seen before on the popular Prowler Ultra 4.3 and 4.7 kayak, this hatch gives you easy access to the inside of the hull for storage of gear, access to house batteries for your electronics, and even to store your kayak trolley. Another feature borrowed from the Prowler Ultra 4.3 and 4.7 is the transducer scupper; this is an upgraded version over the original Prowler 13 transducer scupper and has been designed to support many different sizes and brands of transducers including the side imaging transducers from Humminbird. The Prowler Ultra 4.1 sports four flush mounted rod holders, two additional rear flag mounting points, has a large rear well for your catch, and comes complete with a standard Ocean Kayak comfort seat.

The hull used on the Prowler Ultra 4.1 is the tried and trusted Prowler 13 hull with over 25,000 of these kayaks sold globally this hull has been proven over and over that it is one of the best on the market today on a fishing kayak, giving the paddler both speed and stability.

The specifications of the kayak are; length 4.1 meters, width 71cm, weight 28.5kg, weight capacity 195kg. The Prowler Ultra has an RRP of $1699.00 and can be purchased from any Ocean Kayak dealer, for more information and to find your local dealer visit http://www.oceankayak.co.nz" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So basically an upgraded P13 with a center hatch and traducer scupper to compete with P400.

:y: Same price as profish400, front storage hatch

:n: it is 4 kg heavier than P13 and 2 kg heavier than P400, only 4 rod holders

I think it might be a winner :y: Maybe not :^)

What a shame the keel wasn't changed to extend the waterline length and improve tracking which would have been a big improvement. I have never agreed with that part of the design on the P13 and 4.5 and I know current owners of P13's who want this changed or have made the mods themselves. I presume the cost to make changes to the mould were deemed too great or do the designers still think that cut out keel is a good idea? :^)

I like it! I have fond memories of the Prowler 13 I owned for some years. This might be a good economic yak for surf beach launches where the Hobie is a bit limited. Hmmmmm :?:
Profish 400 Lite
There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing around in kayaks.

Its 4.5kg heavier than the current Viking Profish 400 Lite
Prowler 4.1 ultra 28.5kg
Profish 400 Lite 24kg
Just traded my p13 in on 2 Profish 400 Lite's basically for the better tracking, better storage and not having to mess with the mongrel p13 front hatch every time I got my battery out.
If I new this was coming out I may have waited but got such a good deal on the vikings I could pass it up.

looks good to me :y:

shame about the weight, but at least it has handles :D

28.5kg with handles or 24kg with no handles (unless you are a praying mantis) which is easier to lift?

will try and lift both at the show!!? :D
All the gear...No idea

Was in at the boat ahow at lunchtime for a look, and I like it.

The Icebox to suit looks great too. Only issues I had was the centre console is a little bit narrow and seat is quite a bit higher than footwells - this may make it more comfortable??? but could also make it a little tippy??? Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Really like the look of Mental's new Black/Red 4.7 and the Black Icebox is sexy! - However unsuitable it may be as far as heat goes.
