You may remember the Leopard Seal that sometimes frequents Auckland Harbour and other Leopard Seals elsewhere.

There don't appear to have been any attacks on humans, but I saw this photo and was reminded that these are very large predators.

And should be avoided, no petting.

I find all seals a bloody nuisance when fishing

Only seen one Leopard on the beach up here and it looked like an oversize evil snake - Not at all like the cutesy fur seals we get on the rocks.

Did a launch in the dark from Tutukaka last year and it wasn't until I got back I saw the big DOC sign saying "Lookout for the Bitey Thing on the beach". It wasn't there when I landed, presume it was out scoffing penguins.
