Hi all,

I am looking to start my kayak fishing addiction, wanting to buy a good value kayak but one that I won't grow out of too fast.. budget is a bit limited with young kids but will consider a bit more if its worth it.. Will be for fishing inshore conditions in the Maraetai coast area / Waiheke channel. Will be mainly fishing softbaits/scutes/lures.

Preferred items include: lighter/medium size kayak (4m, <30kG) for ease of transport, storage for trolley, ideally would like a FF too but can fit later. My ideal model I think is a Profish GT but realistically is out of budget.. Have been thinking likely models: OK Prowler13, OK Tetra12, maybe Profish 400..

Any other suggestions worth looking at? Thanks

(I have also posted in the buy/sell area..)

Hi mate,

I'm in a similar boat, but am looking on the bigger side of things as I'm in the 100kg+ size. Ive been looking and saving for some time so have done quite a big of digging, stumbled across this listing on TM which may suit you.

Well in your budget, good yak, and youd have a bit left over for running rig, FF, drogue etc.

Hope it helps

I reckon you should be able to get a decent second hand kayak in that budget if you're patient. Another alternative would be a Phoenix Hornet, which is $999 brand new.

There's also plenty of Chinese models in that budget range. I don't have any experience with them though so I can't pass on any solid advice.

One thing I will say though is try as many as possible before you make your choice.

Second hand Viking 400 fits your criteria and budget. Also the Reef Kayaks, have a good deal usually around $1000, :y:
