Hi guys, I'm looking for some help please. I took out my yak yesterday, and my screen on my Lawrance 4 on occasions would go black. I installed the transducer inside the hull with silicone. I researched the importance of making sure there was no air pockets whilst fixing it.I thought I did a good job of it, but now I'm unsure. Is it battery issues or my execution of fixing the trans???? Both the finder and battery are new.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi. If the screen is completely blank, it's probably the battery or a power lead connection. Check the fuse. I was tearing my hair out a little while ago with a similar problem. It turned out the inline fuse holder I had was a piece of crap. It very nearly wrote off the whole unit. Replaced it with a Japanese style fuse holder and all good :y:

Yep...almost definitely a power issue.... sometimes it’s not as simple as Andrew explained.. salt water exposure corrosion can sometimes creep up the cabling and everything can look fine at the joints and connections only for you the have a corrosion break further up the cable

Things like this can sometimes be a bad connection not able to carry the current.
If it happens again, put any car 12v bulb in series and check the current draw through the circuit, often you'll trace it to a bad solder/crimp joint.

The circuit may test at 12-13v all the way through, but it's not until there's a load that it falls over.

Good to hear you're back on the water anyway. :y:
