It never rains, it pours!!!

My last outing was on the 5th of March. That's 11 weeks ago!!!

Then everything went for a loop...
  1. Unfortunately my wife and I separated. I've left my kayak at the house, but of course not that easy getting to it.
  2. I found a fair amount of water inside the kayak after that trip, so keen to get that checked out before I go out again.
  3. Helix 7 Fish Finder which I bought second hand has never worked correctly since I got it, so not critical, but I wanted to get that sorted out as well.
  4. The little petrol motor was well overdue for it's first service.
  5. My contract came to an end and it took a few weeks to find the next one
While nothing un-surmountable, it all just makes it a little more difficult to get out fishing.

Well, I've found my next contract, the motor's been serviced and I took the kayak to Trevor at YakAttack, who did a pressure test on the hull and found no leak whatsoever. Great news!
I'm in Hamilton Monday to Thursday, but hoping to fetch the kayak from Trev on Friday and finally head for a fish on Saturday.
Pity I have missed what I consider to be the best 2 months of the year for fishing. Now I'll have to invest in some warmer clothing as I promised my feet last winter that I wouldn't do that to them again!!

Boring post, sorry, but I just wanted to say something fishing related. Can't wait to get out there!

And for the record, my wife and I have not given up on each other. We're now back to dating and trying to redefine our relationship.

Next attempt will be the 2nd weekend in June...if I fail there ... :x

Thanks guys! I was just thinking, good thing I didn't go to the boat show this year as I may have ended up buying a PDL or something more expensive to act as retail therapy.

i hope things work out. my last trip was 19 april. way too long! i've been out on friend's boats since then, but it's not the same. i'm going out tomorrow despite having a cold and feeling like crap, but the swellmap says i have to go! anyway, you have an open invitation to come out on the ski if you're ever up this way, provided the stars align.

Hope I didn't sound too whingey. While I do appreciate all the well wishes, I don't think I've got things particularly hard... The only whinging was meant to be about not getting out on the water:) And that's about to change this weekend!

Well, since you ask...

I took out another KFNZ member, may have one more convert

Perfect sea conditions and pretty much constant action. Multiple fish around 35cm, plus a few bigger models and some good size kahawai. Biggest snapper was 8lb or so at a guess. Only kept three fish, no need to be greedy.

The biggest fish fell to my soft bait rod which was quite gratifying as I've only just got back in to it. Also tried out my new OA Bender slow jig rod. It's much lighter and softer than my old one. In short, it was awesome. Always nice when new purchases justify themselves!

Mate, I'm already one of those converts... Just the money that gets in the way. Now that I'm slightly more the boss of my own finances, I'm saving for a deposit on a house and thereafter the jetski will be highest on my list. Won't happen any time soon, but I'm certainly looking forward to it.
