A few minutes ago I walked through production and the team had just lifted a Blue/Black combination Profish 440 from the mould - the colours are awesome :o

This boat should be named "STORM" because of the raging seas and the tornado rampaging along one side!

I can see the background to being offshore off Cape Egmont in that first pic on a wild day Stephen. I'm sure you could see what I mean

Looks great! Did you do anything special to lay in the granules? Or just by hand?

In this case it's actually totally random - though we have some control over the process and the way the colours mix, at a detail level every kayak is unique in the way the granules position and combine. Every kayak is unique, almost like a fingerprint.

Actually, I should qualify that - technically it's possible to almost "paint" with the granules, but the technique is prohibitively expensive (additional materials and labour) and it's not a service we currently offer.

Love the combination Stephen and it does appeal, however I think I would last 5 minutes on the Waitemata Harbour before being taken out by a Kohi yacht.

Flashing blue neon and an air horn??

Selecting custom colours is a choice we offer, and it's up to each client to decide what's appropriate. If asked I'm happy to offer opinion that I chose a red/yellow mix for greater visibility.

While I agree the blue/black mix isn't the brightest on the water, I have seen paddlers on orange kayaks dressed in what I'd call camo colours (pale greys and blues) that were at even more risk of being run over. In choppy conditions it's often the colours on your torso and head that make the difference rather than the colour of the kayak.

Very nice! I really wanted a blue one, just like that... however, if I may ask (apparently my post have some rough edges  )...

Safety wise? It is very difficult to see that colour on the sea (hence my awful yellow/orange PF400)... or do you just fly an orange flag and where a bright hat/jacket and hope the boaties see you?

You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but is this done with a hot mold? And you just crack it open and dribble it in by hand?
If so, could open up some pretty cool possibilities for laser cut templates etc... Just like the dusting patterns on hot chocolate :-)

Here's probably the most funky kayak colour combo we did at JO just before we closed - think it was the last Tetra we ever made - it was for one of the staff - no not me  The process is pretty simple but quite time consuming...
