Just noticed this thread and that this comp is on. I had planned to go up Karikari if the weather was good this weekend. It looks like it should be a pretty fishy one with big tides and a new moon. If the weather is not going to be good enough to get out wide off karikari puka hunting I might be a late entry.

Hi to all competitors who entered the Ocean Kayak Gold Rush.Well what a weekend.

Even with the trying conditions, there were a lot of fish weighed in. As the series grows and the competition heats up, I am sure that some of the competitive and good natured spirit that was shown over the weekend will grow even more.

Technical....It might have looked as though there were only 60 competitors (note a previous entry from you :) ) they were all hidden in the waves ;) but there were 80 and what a great bunch of people you all are.

I just got home and finished cleaning the bus, so here are the results.

Heaviest Snapper

1st Chris Rouse 7.25kg
2nd Jai Sanders 5.8kg
3rd Daniel Tupe 5.7kg
4th Scot Scherer 5.15kg
5th David Burrett 5.15kg
6th Peter Stephens 4.75kg
7th Steven Brunt 4.75kg
8th Stephen Tapp 4.6kg
9th Aileen Micheals 4.6
10th David Hodges

Kahawai
1st John Rowland 1.9kg
2nd Simon Carter 1.5kg

Trevally
1st Rick Mclean 2.4kg
2nd Kim Mclean 1.35

John Dory
1st David Burrett 1.15kg
2nd Shamus

Kingfish, None weighed in.

Ladies Heaviest Snapper
Aileen Micheal 4.6kg

Team Trophy ( combined weight ) 16.85kg
Ocean Kayak Peter Micheal, Aileen Micheal

Individual Trophy 9.35kg
Peter Micheal

Average Weight 2.4kg
Tony Denton

Heaviest Fish off a SUP
Shamus 1.20kg

I would like to thank all sponsors and competitors who Supported the Ocean Kayak Gold Rush. Remember, when you are buying product, please support the sponsors, as without their support, I would not be able to run these competitions.

Registrations are already coming in for the Nationals Series and it looks like the final round in Whangarei mid next year will be huge.

The next round is being held in conjunction with the Taranaki Classic, so lets support this fantastic competition and for a change, I will be fishing it as well.

Good on you Orty. Was a great comp, I really enjoyed myself. I regret not taking Monday off and having to leave staright after the prize giving :( . Would have been nice to get on the chop with a good group of people.

Me and the boys caught a stack of fish despite the conditions and will be back next time. I've got twins on the way (well the wife has) so won't be able to fish the series. But its a great initaitive and I'm gutted I will have to miss out for the next little while.

Thanks to you for organising and thanks to all the sponsors for the support. This sport is growing by leaps and bounds... the future looks good.

Hodgey
