Am looking forward to this one happening!

Have just had the organiser in to talk sponsorship.

Here are the details so far;

The fishing area is from the Auckland Harbour Bridge in the South to Cape Reinga in the North, both coastlines and lakes etc.

It is a Kayak and Stand up Paddle Board competition.

Snapper 1st prize is $2000, with prizes down to 10th
Prize for SUP's
There is a section for trout.
Prizes for Earlybird Draw.
Prize for medium weight.
Team trophy.

Date is Saturday 25 and Sunday 26th June

Registration is $45

Thats all I have so far, but will keep you updated.

The real cool thing is that fish tend to be in really good condition around this time and the weather should not play to much of a big part.

How does the weigh in work Shamus? Would catching a BIG snapper and keeping him in a paddling pool till then be OK? :D

Milkey, try using salt water this time as the results from fresh water are a DEAD giveaway :D

Yep, it looks pretty good and the organiser is on to it.

There will be a weigh in on Saturday at Onerahi, Whangarei (near the airport, for those that are unfamiliar with the area) from 4-5pm, with the main weigh in being from 1-3 on Sunday.

This allows you to fish to your hearts content and make sure you are in the lineup by 3pm.

Prize giving from 5pm, it will be short and sharp to allow contestants to head home at a reasonable hour.

Would like to think some of the Naki Boys will come up? We do have good fishing up here as well guys!!!!!!! I may even slip you a couple of my GPS spots, as you guys have always looked after me ;)

With the whole of the North to fish in, I would like to think there will be some fantastic fish caught and some even better stories. and not so much :puke:

Cheers

Shamus

So there is only the one weigh in Spot? If fishing at the cape or the Bridge you'll have to drive to onerahi? Guess we'll have to be more organised than we were for KOTH, we arrived with about 1 minute to spare for the weigh-in.

Being organised.....mmmm....interesting concept, there is always that nagging suspicion that the BIG ONE is only a moment away.

Having one weigh in station, means that in theory, we all get together at least once during the comp. The social side (in my view) is part of what makes the Naki comp such a good one.

The prize giving being held so early allows for most competitors to get home before it gets really late.

Now Im off for a wee bit of SUP fishing for a change

Cheers

Most excellent!

I am working a deal on good, but cheap accom, much like the Oakura Camp ground that is within ten minutes drive and right on the waters edge (14lbr landed within 400 metres of it's launch ramp this week), for anyone who may need it.

Cheers

A pity they haven't organised 'endorsed' weigh stations at the various game clubs etc through the region.

With gas over $2.22/litre, you'd have to be fairly sure of getting a significant prize to justify the mileage to Whangarei & back from the outlying areas.

Usually one would have to be there for a briefing on the Friday, weigh in Saturday and be at the weigh in on the Sunday. One trip to the HQ to collect prizes etc is pretty good me thinks :)

Sounds like fun - Cape to Bridge, some great competition between districts for sure but simply not thought through enough re weigh in points / time or possibly weigh in system?

So, if I wanted to fish Karikari (let alone further north) I'd have to drive to Whg for the briefing, out to Karikari, back for the Sunday weigh in and home again...

At over 500km travel, I think I'll sit this one out and fill the smoker instead.

Just going soft in me old age I s'pose :D

HLD The way I read it is you just have to go to the prize giving and only then if you think you have the winner.

'fraid I agree !!.....I want to have some fun and do some fishing, not driving up and won the country ..sorry Shamus, understand the thoughts behind the socialising and a get together, but in reality, anyone that has to drive from anywhere outside the immediate area, isnt going to want to hang around after a full days fishing and driving to the weighin.....

As a suggestion, if as KLB and someone else has suggested, having multiple weighin points might mean you get a greater participation.....
