Anyone heading east remember to fill up at Opotiki with gas so you can get back.
Bait and ice from iceman on the Whakatane wharf or last stop if bypassing Whakatane try Opotiki bait and tackle by the round about before heading down coast road.

Sweet. Was just discussing that today at work and wondering where the best place for bait would be. Apologies in advance to anyone heading East that gets stuck behind the new and improved Frankentrailer.
Simple is as simple does.

Also small shop at TK camp, best bet for food is Opotiki New World, can't miss it on way into Opotiki .. Most locals good just like anywhere, just don't go flashing your catch around on the beach, aye mental ;)

Shes looking windy (especially Saturday) I'm sure there will be plenty of kms covered to reach some shelter areas. Has anyone fished out from Hicks bay at all?

I believe that in last years 30+kn conditions, Hicks bay was the best option.
From memory no trophy fish from there though.

Yip last year the wind was even worse and quite a few of us got our arse kicked so packed up and headed to Hicks Bay . It was still hell windy but at least there were no 2 and 3m breaking swells !

Yeah I've never heard of great fishing from hicks bay but just doing some research and there could be some decent wash fishing around the top of the point

Good luck down there chaps. Hopefully will catch up for a few beers. Where heading down at 5 in the morning so will probably breeze through before most of you are there. That said it an 8 hour drive for us :(

Good Luck. have fun
