Hi all. Im Steve in Dunedin. Ive only recently come back on this site after a long break from using my Kayak.

I am really keen to start getting out fishing and am more than happy to travel as far as Oamaru to meet up and head out in search of Blue Cod :-)

Ideally i would like to go out 1 sunday a month but also appreciate that not everyone can do this so am happy for the odd day here and there also.

If anyone is looking for someone to go out with then let me know.

Thanks

Steve

Will let you know when we are going. Shag Point was magic in a kayak, installing a fish finder this week.

Hi, Im Paul. Landlocked in Queenstown but keen to get out this summer around Otago coast. Have been out a few times end of last summer of Moeraki and Karitane with limited success so keen to meet up with others whenever possible. Likely to head down to the coast on Wednesday - Thursday depending on conditions (which don't look to flash right now). Happy to travel Oamaru to Tuatapere when work/time permits.

Cheers, Paul

Just back from Karitake and Shag Pt, Nice conditions before the breeze came in each day. Definitely more action at Shag Pt than Karitane but picked up some blue cod at both and a nice Trumpeter at Shag Pt. My partner made me some Onigiri (Japanese rice balls -she is Japanese) which i didn't quite finish so used the last one as berley this morning. Too my surprise when I gutted the biggest cod this afternoon his gut was stuffed with rice ball!. Well at least he had some gourmet cuisine for his last feed. Have fun.

Im keen. :y: Raining here but it will pass. Was hoping to get some mussels, blue cod love them but tides in. Will check to see if the other guy up here is keen also. Conditions at Shag Point and Moeraki looking ok. Will ring you this evening with a time . May as well pack your car.

Cool! Yeah its raining in Dunedin too but doesn't look that bad! Ive had a lot of luck with squid when fishing for Blue Cod, think i have a box in my freezer!

What time are you thinking of going as I have to be back in Dunedin around 2pm as i have a birthday to attend. Was hoping for an early start but i guess it all depends on the conditions!

As im fairly new to Kayak Fishing (in the ocean anyway), I don't have items such as VHF radio, Personal Beacon etc. Im hoping to get a look at your equipment and get some ideas, although i think the radio is fairly important, there is an online course you can do here that gets you a callsign etc.

So my question is, how far out do we go? Are the conditions generally good around Shag Point?

Look forward to catching up tomorrow.

Great to met you Steve,
Hope your disaster hasn't put you off. Few repairs and new gear (connected to your kayak) and you will be ready to go again. Moved my fish finder to within reach so i can use it. Seems to take a few trips to get things right. Blue cod for tea?
Will let you know either on here or by txt when we plan to go again and where.
Andy
