Tarakihi can be found around the seaward third of the island in reasonably close to the steep faces etc - particularly in winter.

You have to be just on the right spot with Tarakihi.

Cheers Mike.

When are you getting out next?
You tried that new kayak yet?

I got some 30 cm tarakihi the other day from Pepin island, is that the normal size or do they come bigger

30cm is upper normal for out there. There are lots of fish at or just above the size limit of 25cm. I only keep those that are closer to 30cm.

I've been out a couple of times in the new kayak but not fishing yet. I've recently had abdominal surgery so I'm off the water for the rest of the year, by which time my core muscles will be jelly. Going to ease back into it in January. Just paddling in the haven first to re-build strength and fitness.
