Got up early and launched at Cable Bay. Headed out to near the second reserve marker.

Anchored up, started a cube trail with anchovies and threw out a couple of straylines. After 15 minutes a few snapper started turning up, but nothing worth keeping. Missed a couple of promising runs, then the barracoutta turned up. Lost a couple of hooks, got one to the boat and released it without getting bitten then decided to move on.

The sun came onto the bay and I realised I left my hat and sunblock in the truck. Back I went trolling (lots of bird activity).

Picked up a nice fat kahawai (estimate 3kg) blooding the gaff I made and a new Berkely monster crank 3B lure (blue) I bought from Schecter on here. Nice lures. Lost my favourite waxwing to a 'coutta.

Retrieved my hat and sunblock and headed back out. Trolled out round the end of the Island to the Delaware Bay side. Worked my way back along the cliffs trying for some cod, but no luck. Got back to the cable side of the island and trolled back to the beach.

Picked up another nice kahawai on a blue waxwing, then lost that lure to a 'coutta. Persisted with the crank lure but only picked up another couple of 'coutta. At least on the crank lures they can't get their fangs anywhere near the line. Kept one for longline bait.

About 10 km paddled - a lot of effort for two kahawai and some bait, but an enjoyable day none the less.

Could have been me you saw - yellow and black kayak and an orange hat (after second launch  ).

The swell was worst right at the beach got flatter further out and no significant swell out side the bay.

Might have to start using steel traces on my waxwings (after I buy some more :@)

The berkley lures are great, apart for attracting Cudas. Still if you wanted pot or longline bait ....

I'm thinking about heading to Kina later this week for pre work dawn breaker.

intel suggests matching the hatch...

Forecast for NW @ 15 knots makes Kina a reasonable choice tomorrow morning.

I'm heading out there tomorrow if the weather is decent.

I've just bought a couple of sniper free fall micro jigs that I'm keen to try.

Will probably still drag some bait though.

Only had a quick fish this morning, wind chop was up when out at 7+ meters so came in close had a few pulls but nothing hooked up, some sign on the ff wind died down as I was getting out as had a chiro appointment, will most probably be back in the morning over the high, the other alternative will be cable.
