Yum. Highly under-rated fish. If I'm ever forced to buy fish, it's one I often go for. It's a good eating fish and (important when buying fish) it keeps well. Unlike terakihi ...

Well done pete , I've heard of a few being caught in shallow here too off yaks. I'm afraid the spinies and couta have made their way home to hawkes bay this winter already. where are yours at? :lol:

I didnt rate it for eating mike. Kinda like a creamy kahawai but im a snob and have pigging out on big fat carrots :rock: :rock:

I usually use it in tempura, curries and tagines etc. Anything with a sauce. It has a nice texture and that cream taste goes well with a sharp sauce.

If you end up buying fish gurnard is another one to avoid ... doesn't age well at all.

Funny how fish of the day in a restaurant is tarakihi or gurnard. These are two of the worse keeping fish.
