Warranty could be an issue having to send it back to au, but they should be pretty reliable given the lifespan is 5+ years.
Makes no different to timing, there was a post about it a while back.
Appearantly NZ beacons are monitored from a joint control centre in Canberra anyway...

That pic of your yak from the rescue helicopter puts it in perspective. If there was white caps they may have had a bit more of a mission locating you.
