Quite a paddle into some deeper water ( 16m + ) this past weekend found me some red gold. Got two from three on small swimming mullet soft-baits. These are the biggest Gurnard i've had all season, with all them over 800g and the biggest going 950g / 46cm. One spiny on a bait but other than that, no more of them seen.

Nice. I just cooked whole roasted gurnard. Guts out, gills out. Put in baking tray. A bit of olive oil on the fish, plus garlic/salt/pepper/butter/white wine to taste. 15 - 20 minutes in the oven at 180 degrees. Looks great and easy :y:

Nice work, Blair! You certainly put in the hard yards (well, compared to a lot of us other Hawkes Bay fishos!), and it pays off.
I am not fishing much at the moment, but enjoy reading what you're up to.

Nice one andrew, looks like you have some good carrots up north. sounds tasty ! way better than snapper.

Always happy to have someone out with me Hawk , your most welcome to tag along for a paddle. Not enough keen buggers on this side of the coast ! wanting to do bigger and better trips to bare island and cape kidnappers eventually. But need some people to join me. Will be back out again where ever the swell allows. Sounds like the gurnard are in good numbers in close right now.
