Kingfish on light tackle and a Skute Lure

Grab some popcorn, dim the lights, sit down on the couch and watch some kayak fishing videos.

As well as snapper it seems yellowtail kingfish seem to like the latest fishing craze in New Zealand that is the skute lure.

Yes I was wondering the same thing, indeed what a 'Skute' was...

I saw one on the youtubery, that would have done a good squid imitation, about six inches long and all big brown feathers, it looked very effective.

Then I saw the photo from Dedant and these lures remind me of nothing so much as my old fave, the Tokoroa Chicken.

Tokoroa Chickens come in many shades and sizes, and most have eyes, I would think that most are designed, to emulate small smelt/trout etc. They also do well in the sea for Kahawai etc.

And just for interests sake, here below, is a photo of a couple of Tokoroa Chickens that I've tied myself, these are a pattern that I have used very effectively, on big Waikato River Brown Trout over the years, they are supposed to emulate a Koura (fresh water crayfish) escaping backwards...

And don't all laugh once..

Here's a couple I've just tied on 1/2 oz jig heads, fluoro nail polish on the heads.

It'll be interesting to see if these work :$
