Have I missed something, or has the new format killed the comp section?

Hi PJay,

Sorry I've only just seen this post, the comp was closed mid last year due to lack of entries, of people want the comp to come back lets do it, I know the sponsors are still keen but when we only got two entries in a month it didn't seem like were we giving value back to the sponsors.

Cheers, Mental

Personally I was quite excited about the new format of the comp, but as it happens that was about the time things started going wrong for me and I took a break from yak fishing.
If the comp comes back, I'd be keen to get an entry in.

..it also worth adding that we also tried making the comp "broader" than just fish photos so that people that didnt always catch the biggest / best fish could enter with photos of scenery etc etc and that didnt seem to attract any more people either

How about "TR of the Month" or something like that? I'd be voting for the man with a half snapper PB! :-)

Id like to see the comp back, not sure what format would work best, but id be interested in anything that will create more posts of awesome photos and/or TRs  For me the comp was great because we got to see some awesome fish caught. I never entered due to not catching any awesome fish and unfortunately was MIA with no yak not long after the format changed.

Could be a good idea. Would generate more TRs to read which cant be a bad thing :y:

There could be a section for the person with the most TR's in the month :?:

Sorry just kidding.

I'm not sure what the answer is. I only entered a couple of times because I'm never going to catch a huge or unusual fish here in Auckland.

Quite like the idea of the comp being open to photos and TRs. Personally I prefer a good read rather than a picture of fish.

What about most entertaining TR with pics? (Because I rarely take pics - in fact, I think the only ones I've put up on this forum have been taken by other people - I'd be disqualified, but I do like reading the illustrated TRs of other members.)

So if you think your TR is particularly entertaining and/or informative, then you do a linky in the Competition.

I have a small ulterior purpose: Joe Dennehy tells me the NZ Softbait Champs are moving from Coromandel in April to Auckland in November this year. I need to form ideas and patterns from reports by Destin and others to put me on to the most productive areas in the Auckland part of the HG.

Yeah a TR comp would be good I actually like reading them even when its not in my area
Maybe open up the vote again too rather than it being a closed vote.

A lot of people will never enter their own TR's into a comp, so it would need to be nominated by others. A bit like a Google "+1" or a Facebook "Like". So you read a funny / interesting / cracking TR, hit the "+1" button - job done. Most votes wins.

The reason the vote was made panel style based was to stop the same people winning on a popularity basis. It shared the love a little more. I think it would work better as a public vote counts as a single vote towards the panel though so there is still forum input into the process.
