Hey peeps, bit off topic and maybe a silly question, but keep in mind that I'm relatively new to NZ.

Am I allowed to go kayaking in the reservoirs in the Hunua ranges, like this here is 20kms from my house and looks pretty well sheltered. Anyone been to Cosseys Reservoir or done any kayaking in the Hunua area?

I'm having a strange sense of Deja vu... have I asked this before?

I would say your not allowed, I know there is no swimming signs all around there ,as it is the main source of your tap water in kura filtered at the pump station near ardmore
i tryed looking on the arc website but thats about as helpful as ..........well as helpful as the arc are at anytime really :n:
but the walks around the dams up that way make for a good day out

:( NO BOATING - I'm afraid.

It's a reservoir all right and they police it with people running the farm and reserve around it , unfortunately.
And the possibility of clowns going down the intake probably precludes activity there too.
Also a lot of NZ fresh water lakes and reservoirs do not want to introduce harmful aquatic weeds & slime .

right... I didn't put 2 'n 2 together with that word. Sorry, was a silly question. Did I mention that English is my second language? :$

Different question then, any suggestions for calm waters where I can take the kids kayaking? Preferably within 50kms from Papakura.

8) Where you're going already but up around the point at Waiti Bay then cruise around to Tawhitokino Beach. Some can walk it , lovely beaches and picnic shelters even camping spot.
Brilliant sheltered spot from Westerlies , calm as in close :y:
Get the kids to haul a Mussel farm buoy back over the track if you find one washed up, as team building exercise, great for beach combing especially now while less folk about.
