I haven't heard of any caught yet but the water temp has been up and down like a yoyo between 15 and 19 degrees. They won't be far away and could already be off the port by now but no-one chasing them yet. Need a good day of settled weather to allow enough time to get out wide and the damn westerlies have settled in for now. Normally late Jan through to April is the best time for them although last year they arrived early then all but disappeared later in the season. Keep an eye on the boat gamefishing forum also on fishing.net.nz they start posting about this time of year.

We were lucky and got great conditions for the tuna hunt with light winds first thing and a sea breeze from about 11am to push us back in.
Lots of albacore landed in the 70m-85m zone. 28 entered this year.
1st Adrian Clark 7.8kg
2nd Dave Letherby 7.6kg
3rd Daniel Clout 7.2kg

Looks like magic conditions!
And 7+kg fish makes it even better, real close race with only a few hundred grams between the places
Any other pics at all?
