Will be back for another crack. Great comp. Interesting to see what options the bigger boundaries throw up.

I want to compete in both as well as the coromandel meet up in November. Got a title to defend in Coro so probably give the Viking comp a miss

Will aim for both but if I can only make one it'll be this one. All this shithouse weather and my softy stash is getting to big, needs some thinning out.

Got to give it a miss this year as I'll be overseas :(

Anyone who is wondering if its a good comp or not then yes it's a cool comp, it's not a big show pony event, it's run by John & Annette who own and run the Sportsman's Choice store in Whangarei, John keeps it all very low key and simple well worth supporting :y:

Hi Guys, Sorry to be a little tardy posting here. :o:
This year it's been like "herding cats' putting the comp together :headbang:
We are just about there now :whew:
We are having issues getting it up on our web site, but should be there next week. :wasntme:
In the meantime, please feel free to drop me an email: john@northlandkayaks.co.nz
to register, get a set of this year's rules, or any other queries.
Thank you Jason Walker for putting this up on the forum!
The main changes this year are:
1. We have extended the boundaries. This is so fishos have a wider range of launch options, which includes more sheltered waters should we get snotty weather again. :y:
2. Entry Fee is $65.00
3. Prize Pool value will increase by approx 30% (Still being put together) :x
4. The major Prize this year will be a Viking Profish 400 Kayak primped out worth over $3K
5. Ist Place getter in the main catagory (who will win the above prize), wil not be eligible for any prizes in the secondary catagory (Individual snapper). :( After confering with last year's major prize winner Jason Clendon, we felt this a great decision, and the main prize winner will likely be very pleased and (as Jason pointed out), more winners and no embarrasement for the major prize winner
We have just confirmed with Oceans Resort Tutukaka that they will repeat their accomodation offer this year, but we advise that you don't dilly dally with your booking as they are already half full for that weekend! :o: (Flyer attached)
Remember, we are donating all presented fish to the Tutukaka Coastguard, and the Fish Auction is a heap of fun.

Cheers all
Hope to see you all there.

Weather Update and Fishing Options

Ok Fellow Kayak Fishos - This year is looking like the best weather yet for our Competition.
The weather Report (that I prefer): http://www.marineweather.co.nz/forecasts/sandy-bay" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; gives local Forecast options from Ocean Beach to Bland Bay. As any forecast though, they can be unpredictable, but I have found this one (usually) the most accurate, as to the conditions you actually get.
At this stage, we are looking at an early morning light Northerly of around 4-5knots (Primo), building late morning up to around 10knots (Wish I could fish). We will have an easterly ocean swell of around ¾ metre, at about 8 seconds apart. This may make a bit of a challenge (for some) launching on exposed surf beaches, but quite do-able. With a 7.30am Low Tide and 1.40pm Hi Tide, it makes it ideal for that early morning launch in an estuary to run out with the outgoing tide, and come back in with the incoming tide. This will make for an easy launch, with you already on board and paddling when you negotiate the Estuary entrance. This will work well in places like: Taiharuru, Ngunguru, Matapouri, and Whananaki. Other "easy launch" sites (with little or no shore break), would be: any of the 5 kayak launch sites inside the Tutukaka Harbour, Wellingtons Bay, Rockells Bay, Oatamouri Bay?, Oakura, and Bland Bay are usually an easy launch in these conditions.
These are a few of the many lanch options available, and of course there are many more, which I will not go through here, as with the expanded fishing area, it would end up quite long-winded. Please feel free to email me with any queries about your proposed launch site. john@northlandkayaks.co.nz
Cheers & Tight Lines to all Entrants
