Julian

Island Bay,
fishing yak virgin, but have had boat for a few years that I take the kids out on.
Just purchased a Moken 13 off TM, fixed and and setup for fishing with FF etc.

Have a few weeks off work next month so hopefully get out while the kids are at school.

Good stuff. Enjoy mate, if you are anything like I was first time on a yak, it took a few shake down missions to sort myself out and get a routine going.

Also Julian aka Jules & Bear Jules. 39yrs

Been a keen fisher for 30 yrs. Had a boat for a couple of years and sold it and bought a kayak. I have a lime green prowler 13. From the very first trip out which was amazing and very productive i loved it. I have been kayak fishing since Jan 2012

My first trip was to Pukerua Bay which is where i fish mostly in the summer / autumn months.

I have also fished:

Seatoun
Makara
Kapiti coast
Waitarere Beach
New Plymouth Port

I would like to explore around Makara area more and north to Boom rock . I have never caught a Kingfish from the yak but very keen too (i Think....?)

I have a wife and two lively boys 6.5yrs and 3.5yrs

I'm Rob, 42, I live in Houghton Bay.

Just bought a Prowler 4.3 off TM. Never fished from a yak before, in fact never been much of a fisher, I dive a lot so all my hunting has been grabbing rather than reeling. All my experience in yaks to date has been whitewater and multisport and that was about 8yr or so ago.

Looking forward to getting out there!

Heya

Daniel here, never been kayak fishing, got set up pretty cheaply second hand with the help of the old man.

Perception Swing, with all the bits i'll need to get out and about, rod holders, sea anchor, UV cover, long line, epirb, gps, no fish finder yet :( done a bit of kayaking and fishing but never together.

im in owhiro bay and looking for spots around this area that are easy to get to, have a little roof rack on my van so can get to most places easily.

Definitely keen to tag along if anyone if headed out so i can see what its all about and maybe get a few tips.

Pretty much if its sunny and calm enough i will be out somewhere if anyone wants to get out for the hell of it

Brothers -

Im Les. 37 years old. Im moving to Wellington from Hamilton for work. Usually fish out of the Coromandel, Raglan or kawhia. I have very little experience in Wellington and am respectful of the ocean and its dangers so would really appreciate teeing up some group trips.

I have a prowler 4.7 ultra with ff.

Awesome

Great stuff mate, keep an eye on the various social media (Facebook for one) as your most effective way of linking with someone in the capital. Feel free to PM me anytime. There are some nice spots to be sampled.

Hi fullas,

My names Jaemin, I live in Titahi bay but am yet to dial the place in.
I've been in the kayak for 3 years. I started out with a bashed up scrambler, turned it into the Frankenstein of kayaks. Recently upgraded to a 440 and love it.

I mostly fish the west coast, i love the current, deeper waters and the challenges they always brings. Have tried every year for the tuna but only came home with sore arms and dead legs.

I grew up fishing in the naki so heading home to hit the homespots are always on the cards. But you can't beat wellingtons west coast on a good day.

Caught my first king last year, so this year i plan to step away from building 24/7 and spend more time dialing in. Will see some of you boys out there!

Yak type is in signature

Other details in profile

Based in Wellington city - taken yak out most areas west and south

Met service forecasts and navionics charts use more of my time then I like to admit

Use yak for spearfishing and fishing

Been enjoying it for a couple of years now

Hi All,

Name is Tom, 29 years old, moved to Wellington about 3 months ago. Been kayak fishing for around 5 years now on the east coast of Australia, Lake Taupo and the Coromandel. Just getting into spearfishing since I moved down here. I'm keen to get stuck into some bigger fish (tuna, kings, etc.) with the rods.

Currently own a Kaskazi Dorado and Macski Kingfisher.

Feel free to PM me if you want a fishing buddy!

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom

Will be heading out for tuna as soon as the water warms up, probably in January sometime.

Will be a good paddle to get to them between 30 and 40ks at a time. with the current its not that bad really.

will be good to see a dorado in wellington used to have one in South Africa. Best kayak in rough water i have used to date..

regards

carl

Keen, but need to get my mileage up (currently only achieving around 15kms in a day) as well as more time on the Yak - luckily these two go hand in hand

yep sounds like a plan

weather factors in a bit, but its mainly hitting the right tides.

paddled back into the wind and tide once and it took me 2 and half hours back from the island.

could hardly get my kayak on the roof.
