Going to resurrect my kayak and give it a nudge this year, want to upgrade my FF and i dont need location maps anything other than a look in the water under me, what sort of fish finder would be the go?

I'm going through the same process with the fish finder, thinking of upgrading.

Cheap but good - Lowrance HOOK2 4x - $140

More bells n whistles - Garmin Striker 5cv Plus - $460 or so

Lotsa good bells and whistles - Garmin Striker Plus 7sv - $830

and up in price from there.

It would seem that across brands and price ranges, there are a plethora of price points depending on the addition of one feature, after another, prices going up each time.

I'm currently infatuated with the Garmin striker 7sv, having started at the bottom end of the price range.

I know what you mean, but it's spring and I've got "new toy" fever...

A quick plug before I throw it up on Trademe and FB, I have a Lowrance Elite 7 Chirp that's 3 years old that I am selling, has two gimbals and power cables (you never know when you are going to set up that second vessel, right?) a Navionics Platinum Chart Card and a 50/200 khz transducer. It's a tidy unit with a good transducer, that's a step up from the bog standard one that they were kitted with (better sensitivity, more power and greater depth penetration), if it has any appeal flick me a PM.
You're aware that while it affords one the momentary illusion of satisfaction, the spewing of bile is never a permanent solution.
